Overhauling weapon tempering in Requiem requires Honing Oil and Honing Compound.
3100/5000 requirements-tempering overhaul
This overhauls the weapon crafting recipes in Requiem so that the components might make more sense. I never understood the idea of bringing metal and a sharpening wheel to the blade for an upgrade. Melee weapons, bows, and crossbows will now require oils and waxes to temper the weapons. This was basically inspired by Paulicus' tempering adjustments to Oldrim's Requiem Tweaks. I just resurrected some ideas.
feature:
-`Basic weapon oil and bowstring wax can be purchased from blacksmiths and caravan traders, while the lighter ones will stock up on bowstring wax. Suppliers have limited inventory, so production at the smelter is also possible. Weapon Oil can be made from Troll Fat or Dwarf Grease and yields 3 vials. Bowstring wax is made from honeycomb and is also produced in three batches.
- Certain celestial melee weapons such as Skyforge, Glass, Ebony, Daedric, Dragonbone and Starrim also require honing compounds in addition to oils. Can be purchased from the Skyforge or Orcish blacksmiths in Eorland, as well as from the Dark Brotherhood. You can also craft it at the smelter with red or blue glitter dust and clay, producing 2 batches.
-Many artifact weapons also require additional crafting components. Daedric items still require the Heart of Daedra as well as new materials.
- 'In addition to wax, the more advanced will also need Bowyer's Rosin, which can be purchased from the above as well as Fletchers. You can craft rosin at Spriggan Sap's smelter and Bee or Torchbug Thorax's smelter, producing 2 batches.
-Armor is unaffected. The idea of taking some basic materials and patching up worn out armor makes more sense to me. So ingots and materials are still useful here.
- Any base perks required for tranquilizing weapons remain unchanged in Requiem. Crafting recipes should be adjusted to not show up unless you have one of the required materials in your inventory. All crafts in this mod require a base crafting skill perk.
compatibility
This mod only touches a small number of container records. Most of it is added by the REQ_LI_BlacksmithMinimum level list, so if you have other affecting patches you can easily copy the record in xEdit. All weapon tempering recipes have been significantly changed.
Any new weapon mods will require patches, but won't break anything. I'll be looking to upload a patch. You can easily do this yourself in xEdit by swapping out the tempering recipe with the relevant tempering component. This is a very simple mod.
It is highly recommended to use mods that allow weapons and armor to be downgraded. The Equipment Durability System is a great mod that adds extra challenge and interest to tempering and item breakage.

REQUIEM - TEMPERING OVERHAUL
This overhauls the weapon crafting recipes in Requiem to require components that might hopefully make a little more sense. I never much understood the idea of taking a bit of metal AND a sharpening wheel to a blade to get an instaupgrade. Now melee weapons, bows & crossbows will require oils and waxes to temper the weapon. This was basically inspired by Paulicus' tempering tweak from Requiem Tweaks for Oldrim. I just recreated the idea with some differences.
FEATURES:
- Basic Weapon Oil and Bowstring Wax can be purchased from blacksmiths and caravan merchants, while fletchers will stock bowstring wax. Vendors carry limited stock so they can also be made at the smelter. Weapon oil can be made from troll fat or dwarven oil and produces 3 vials. Bowstring wax is made from honeycomb and also produces a batch of 3.
- Certain higher-tier melee weapons, such as Skyf …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
