Installation and "Fortuna" OCW mode

(This instructions section was added with OCW 2.6.1; whether you are freshly installing this mod or it is part of some modpack and don't even see this instructions yet, you need to read it)

How to tell if OCW is installed: There will be more signs on the Civil War map. (Most were bandit fortresses, such as Fort Felhammer on the border of Pale and Winterhold, or Treva Watch in the Rift Valley). Likewise, in versions prior to 2.6.x, activating the Civil War map marker would bring up a menu to select the OCW difficulty. But this may be moved to other locations in later versions, e.g.

The default Fortuna mode has a default difficulty.

There are 3 modes in OCW, you are not locked into any one, but it is recommended that you start with the default (Fortuna) mode to learn how to insert cut content combat back into the questline.

"Fortuna" mode - no strategic elements, the number of soldiers holding battles is almost random

"Standard" mode - the civil war proceeds independently; before the Battle of Whiterun, the fortress can change the factions of the upheaval; after the Battle of Whiterun, the number of the soldiers who held the battle is related to the "battlefield location" of the Civil War map

"Wargamer" Mode - Win the Civil War by playing mini-games on the Civil War map, almost similar to the Risk or Dice Wars board games. Alternatively, you could let the computer play the game for ten turns and see that it doesn't have divergent imbalances (which is bad, since it's the basis of "Standard" mode).

In OCW 2.6.1 and later, if you just play the Civil War questline, OCW will feature "Fortuna" mode, which contains the first cut content

To start the battle, you need to talk to Rikke or Galmar in the military camp.

Rest of OCW mod description

(This description is from the same era as in the OCW 2.5.x version series, feel free to read on for details on Standard and Wargamer modes)

This mod recreates the Civil War questline using the original battles that were removed from the released game. With this mod, after the first Whiterun battle, you will win a city battle with each conquered battle. Additionally, the enemy will try to invade your faction stronghold, and you will be able to stop it through city defense battles. Do this until all but the finals are in your hands, then proceed to the finals and play as normal.

tide of war

By design, urban combat starts with a difference in the total number of soldiers. The "Combat Advantage =..." notification is displayed when starting a combat mission: the higher the number, the better; vice versa. Negative numbers mean the enemy will have more soldiers. Whoever runs out of reinforcements first loses. NOTE: In walled cities (Rifden, Markarth) this is only true in the field battles in front of the city gates - inside it is still a "die or win" battle with countless soldiers reborn.

Combat odds depend on the current strategic situation, which you can see on any Civil War map. You can suggest that your faction general (Tullius or Ulfric) send you to attack your preferred fort - however, the war map will change when you get there. In fact, every time you reach another war map, it changes slightly. Just after the war map marker is placed, the "troops" marker moves around the map. Such a change is called a "One (Full) Turn": first, the enemy faction acts, then your faction acts - similar to Dice Wars (link to RPS article)

keep conquering

Start the city battle by talking to the field commander (Rikke or Galmar) at the fortress military camp. You can tell them that you will raise the wounded - this will solve the problem of urban warfare being "off screen", the winner is just the side that will have more soldiers when starting the urban warfare mission. Off-screen ba …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
