Allows you to replace male and female NPC clothing with clothing of your choice

introduce

If you're like me, then I'm sure you've collected many great costume and armor models made over the years. While there are a lot of things to choose from, I always felt sad that no one besides my characters and companions used them.

Yes, you can use a utility like Simple NPC Outfit Manager to update the outfits of friendly NPCs, but that's not enough for me. All I want to do is be able to update the outfits of anyone I meet in the game without having to interact with them (self-explanatory) without having to use the Creation Kit.

So what I did was create a system that allows you to set up to 100 outfits and then assign them for use by various types of NPCs. So you can set up some outfits used by NPCs wearing Farmer outfits, some NPC outfits wearing Miners outfits, and so on.

Set up the outfit using the Add Item Menu, which Towawot graciously allows me to call seamlessly from my mod. This allows you to find any clothing item in any mod you have installed.

After setting an outfit for a class of NPCs, any NPCs of that class encountered in the game will have their equipment replaced with one of the settings.

If you decide to change the outfit later, you can have the NPCs pick up the changes and even revert them back to standard outfits.

Please note that the following types of NPCs are not affected by this mod:

Old Man - more specifically someone who uses the voices of two old men

Argonians and Khajiit - although can be switched in the MCM menu.

How to use

Once installed, you will gain access to a new power-added item to your equipment. Equipping and using this power-up displays a menu that lists all 100 outfits, what they contain, and then allows you to add items to them.

Adding items will look familiar if you've used the Add Item Menu before. If not, then a quick walk:

You'll first see a text input box where you can enter a search term, such as leather.

If you have any mods with a search term in their esp name then you will see a list of these mods and can then select one to view all items in that mod or use the [Search Item] option to search for all mods with items that have the search term in their name.

A Container with all matching items will then open and you can select the one you want. These items will be added to the equipment.

Please note when selecting items from a container:

Players never receive any of the selected items, they are only added to the outfit

If you switch from the container to the player and select an item in the inventory, then the item will be moved to the container (following normal container operations), but you won't be able to put the item back into the inventory and you'll be lost forever, so don't do that!

If the item does not have one of the standard clothing or armor keywords associated with it, it will not be added to the outfit. This is to block non-clothing items (weapons, potions, etc.) included in the costume. Unfortunately, clothing/armor mods don't always set keywords, in which case you won't be able to add these items to your clothing (unless you modify the clothing/armor model in CK or use TES5Edit)

Once you have some items equipped, the Add Item Equip Shout menu will appear:

Number of items in the garment

The class to which this equipment has been assigned

Is the clothing only for women and men only for both. This option will only appear if male targeting is enabled in the MCM menu. Only F for women, M for men, B for both.

The name of the main item in the outfit (usually this will be any item with a body type)

May be one or more of the following symbols ^{_. These indicate whether the outfit is missing something worn on the head (^), something on the arms ({), or feet (_).

When selecting a filled outfit from the Add Items to Outfit shout menu, you will get the following options:

List items in clothing

Add more items to clothing

Remove an item from the garment

Assign equipment to a ty …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
