Added a pair of miners who visit Riverwood after setting up camp and work in the Embershard Mine after you clear it.
Ever wonder why someone doesn't use Embershard Mine after clearing out the bandits? There is plenty of ore to harvest, complete forges, and remaining tools. Well, now someone does!
Meet Stalgar and Goronk! A pair of childhood friends (albeit a Norse and an Orc), these two will set up camp outside the back gate of the mines during the next loadout after clearing the cells. Sure, they could have used sheets from the mines - but who wants to sleep in a mine? Plus, the place is filled with bandits' blood and guts until they have time to clean up after you.
I know there are well-made mods out there that will repopulate Embershard after clearing, so feel free to use whichever one you like best! This mod does not require a separate framework, it is meant to be lightweight and compatible. Embushard can still respawn normally and be used in Fallout missions. I also think having just a few freelance miners would have been more immersive - with the civil war going on and the population so high, the guards seem a little stretched. Finally, the mod is an esp with the esl flag.
notes:
You can eat Stalgar and Gorunk in their camp in the morning. For most of the day, they would be working in the sandbox in or near the mine's largest room (the room with the forge). At night, they'll head to the Sleeping Giant Inn for dinner and drinks before eventually returning to camp to sleep. On the weekends, they work in the mines for just a few hours, and then they spend the day in Riverwood relaxing or helping the townspeople.
If the mine is reborn, our new miners will stay! They were of course afraid to go into the mines and instead hung out in the camp during normal working hours.
Both NPCs are protected and will not respawn.
Additionally, sheets and traps will be disabled if conditions are met to enable them to work in Embershard. If the bandits respawn, traps and bedding will respawn with them.
It should be safe to add mid-game. In order for the camp/miners to show up, the cells must be reloaded - so your best bet is to fast travel to Whiterun and back for instant results. There are no known conflicts with other mods other than other Embershard Mine overhauls - if you find any, please let me know.
This mod was mainly made as a test as I envision adding more NPCs as I clear the dungeon. This would be an immersive and entertaining way to add population to Skyrim's towns as you play the game, rather than adding nameless NPCs from the start. If you have any ideas for similar dungeon clearing based NPCs, please feel free to share!

Meet Stalgar and Goronk! A pair of childhood friends (though a Nord and an Orc), these two will set up camp right outside the back entrance to the mine next time the cell loads after clearing it. Sure, they could have used the bedrolls in the mine - but who wants to sleep inside a mine? Plus the place is covered in bandit blood and guts til they have the time to clean up the bodies for you.
I know there are well-made mods out there that repopulate Embershard after clearing it, so feel free to use whichever you like best! This mod does not require a separate framework, and its meant to be lightweight and compatible. Embershard can still respawn normally and be used for radiant quests. I also figured it'd be more immersive to just have a couple freelance miners - with the Civil War going on, repopulating with a dozen and guards seems a bit of a stretch. Finally, the mod is an esl-flagged esp.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
