About this mod Machine translation

A mod has breathed new life into Skyrim's vanilla followers, greatly expanding their free, conditional commentary repertoire by using only vanilla resources.

Important reminder:

I am not the author of this mod.

This is a port of the original mod for SSE with the appropriate permissions.

Any and all credit goes to OG mod author terzaerian for this wonderful mod and anyone mentioned by the author in the description below

But since I'm uploading it, I'll ask you to support my Youtube channel because I'm still figuring it out:

My other MOD conversions:

Facelight Plus SE

(Face Light Mod with SkyUI and MCM support)

LIAT SE & Less LIAT SE - lively hotel and bistro)

(reduced version)

Gaimulin SSE

(Absolutely beautiful bark and firewood retextures for a more fantasy feel).

FCO SE is fully integrated with the MCM option. :)

Skyrim fans have a problem: they're boring. Once you recruit them, 99% of them turn into silent robots, whose entire purpose is summed up in three instructions:

kill enemy

looks good

bear my burden

Follower modes, like the superlative Inigo, are the epitome of how things should be - how they react to their surroundings, behavior, items worn, or even just being dragged around in your inventory, and what you do.

This makes them feel more like companions with you on the journey. What

However, these mods don't solve vanilla fans' problems

Fashion.

This is what I plan to do.

The minion comment overhaul does two things: first, it takes the minion comment that was originally added to the game and "unlocks" it for use with the entire voicetype. My Anska mod already works the same way: it was previously "locked" specifically by Mamoll's NPCs, and effectively comments any follower NPC using the FemaleNord voice type. The Follower Comments Overhaul opens the door by doing the same thing to most existing idles.

Secondly, the minion comment overhaul adds new idles for all voice types that don’t have their own vanilla minion

Similar to my Nazeem mod: I comb the audio for each voicetype and pick and cut good comments, then attach them to the in-game voicetype when they are selected as a fan.

In total, over 1,000 lines of dialogue have been added to the voice types of the 18 vanilla minions; some of which are identical to elsewhere in the game, and others which can be lightly edited, cut, or reorganized without destroying the audio quality. It's also a way that each voice type becomes a personality in a sense: a female commander, for example, summons hostile archers and mages to target in battle; Male Khajit pines for his homeland of Elsweyr; and FemaleEvenToned notices if you're infected with a disease and nudges you to get medical treatment. Other idlers are conditional only after certain points in your or your followers' development - they'll only start talking about dragons after Mirmulnir lets the cat out of the bag, or will start reveling in their mastery of arcane or marksmanship powers.

This is done entirely via conversational threads - the only script MCM uses is the single script that initializes its MCM engine; everything else is done by narrowing down the conditions for the context in which lines are considered valid.

Q) Does this work with [my favorite follower mod? ]

A) Yes! Any follower mod that uses vanilla voice types will benefit from this mod without conflicting. So this means vanilla fans as well as custom fans added

mod, as long as the minion still uses the vanilla type. It also won't conflict with fans using custom voice types.

Q) Does this apply to fans of the DLC?

A) In general, the same rules apply to custom fans - if they use the vanilla voice type, they will benefit from FCO. That said, well-known fans like Serana, Teldryn Sero, and Neloth don't use vanilla types; however, adding FCO modules for them has been a frequent request, so it's on my radar.

Q) Does this apply to non-English versions of Skyrim?

A) Currently, a dedicated team is working on translating FCO …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
