About this mod Machine translation
Locked objects are experienced every time they are unlocked, not just once. Lightweight, compatible with almost everything, no script extensions required.
The legendary version is available here!
Lockpicking XP Fix is a very simple fix for old problems. In vanilla Skyrim, locked chests and doors only provide a single experience. This means that when you revisit previously cleared dungeons and burglarized buildings, you won't gain any more experience, and Baan Dar will help you if you make your lockpicking legendary.
This mod changes that with just a few forms and lightweight scripts, giving you a Lockpicking experience every time you pick a lock.
how it works
First, the mod blocks the game's default source of lock success experience. This does not prevent you from gaining experience from broken pickaxes, books, or trainers.
As you play the game, a lightweight script keeps track of the last lock you checked and notices when you pick a lock with your pickaxe. Experience is awarded based on the lock difficulty and the lock experience value in the game settings.
That's all.
compatibility
Will be compatible with any mod as long as 1) Lockpicking remains Lockpicking, and 2) it doesn't have its own new Lockpicking experience distribution system.
Compatible with any mod that changes the lockpicking experience value in the game settings.
Not compatible (and not required) with Ether Traveler. Not compatible with any other perk overhaul that changes the Lockpicking skill to another skill. However, these mods often add to the experience of locked activities on different trees in their own way, so this mod isn't even necessary in this case.

Legendary edition available here!
Lockpicking XP Fix is a very simple fix for an old source of frustration. In vanilla Skyrim, locked chests and doors provide experience exactly one time. That means you won’t get any more experience when revisiting previously cleared dungeons and burglarized buildings, and Baan Dar help you if you made Lockpicking legendary.
This mod changes that with just a couple of forms and lightweight scripts, letting you get Lockpicking experience every single time you pick a lock.
How It Works
First, the mod blocks the game’s default source of lockpicking success experience. This does not prevent you from getting experience from broken picks, books, or trainers.
As you play the game, lightweight scripts keep track of the last lock you examined and watch for when you open a lock with a pick. Experience is awarded based on the lock difficulty and the lock experience values in the game settings.
And that’s all there is to it.
Compatibility
Compatible with any mod as long as 1) Lockpicking is still Lockpicking, and 2) it doesn’t have its own new system of Lockpicking experience distribution.
Compatible with any mod that changes the lockpicking experience values in the game settings.
Incompatible (and not needed) with Aetherial Traveller. Incompatible with any other perk overhaul that changes the Lockpicking skill into something else. However, these mods usually add experience for lockpicking activities to a different tree in their own way, so this mod isn’t even needed in those cases.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
