Jehovah Museum Shipping Box Patch (Unofficial)

by godescalcus·v1.0·Updated 2020-04-16

Some of the Dragonborn Museum's shipping crates were placed on the mesh terrain so that actors would get stuck if they tried to navigate between them. This patch moves crates to nearby logical locations that do not have a navmesh by default, ensuring compatibility with the base game as well as any mods that do not make substantial changes to the navmesh in these areas.

About this mod Machine translation

Some of the Dragonborn Museum's shipping crates were placed on the mesh terrain so that actors would get stuck if they tried to navigate between them. This patch moves crates to nearby logical locations that do not have a navmesh by default, ensuring compatibility with the base game as well as any mods that do not make substantial changes to the navmesh in these areas.

Unofficial Patch If Icecreamassassin or anyone on the Legacy development team is on their side to resolve this issue and release a fix in a future update, this patch will no longer be needed.

The latest version of Legacy, Dragonborn SSE, adds a useful transportation system that allows you to send items to the museum in Solitude, helping you avoid being too annoyed or having to go to Solitude too often. However, the crates located in Winterhold, Windhelm, Riften and Markas were placed next to the wagons on the Magwish terrain. This might normally be harmless if they were in a location that NPCs would never choose to pass (such as an inside corner) - but it turns out that the carriage drivers themselves seem to move around the carriages quite a bit... which makes sense. They can get stuck, or sometimes you'll find them standing on top of the crate. Mods that edit cart driver behavior like ICAIO (making them seek shelter or warm spots depending on the weather and time of day) would make it more noticeable.

A quick fix is to move the crate to the nearest navmesh "hole" that makes sense in the context. I personally don't like seeing boxes next to boxes in the middle of the street, so moving them seems like a win-win.

I try to keep the boxes in neat and logical places. In all four cases, they were located in areas that were not initially navigated. Also be careful to avoid any idle markers, civil war markers, etc.

New location for shipping boxes:

"Bonus": Dawnstar's chests don't exactly cause problems. They're on nautical terrain, but in a corner that an NPC still won't use for navigation (well, if they're prompted to go around obstacles like the player character or another NPC, that shouldn't happen very often). Still, on the other side of the steps leading up to the Windpeak Inn is an unmeshed site with a few barrels and a few snowberry bushes. The bushes don't collide, so why not swap them? So swapping out the ones I made, it still works fine and is beautiful, hopefully it won't tend to be an issue in the game.

Question: Is it compatible with mod x?

This mod is very simple and should be compatible with most mods. Tested with Immersive Citizens, Locker Room Floors, Landscape Patch for Grass Mods (this patch should be placed lower in the load order), and many other tools that affect a given area but do not change the navmesh. It is not compatible with mods that modify the new location of chests or edit the navigation mesh, so that the new location will now be on the navigation terrain, thwarting the mod's usefulness. Note that the fact that a mod changes the navmesh in these cells does not necessarily mean that it will be incompatible. This is just a matter of moving a crate and some plants or static items to where they are needed. The navigation mesh itself has not been edited. In Markarth, I painted some landscapes to remove some grass and keep the scene tidy (check the screenshot above). It will conflict with other mods that also address landscape issues in this unit, but the conflict just means you might be bouncing on pavement bricks and whatnot - nothing to get Skyrim used to!

Hope you like this patch.

Big thanks to Icecreamassassin for letting me upload this patch. If you haven't already, check out "Legacy Versions of Dragonborn SSE" (but why check this mod as well?) and make sure you approve of it.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
