How about it?

design concept

While the iWant widget greatly reduces the effort required to interact with the Skyrim UI, it does not regulate what is displayed or how it is displayed. Additionally, since it is stateless, each mod author is required to maintain and refresh the state of their UI elements. This mod maintains status information for all loaded icons, standardizes the display of all icons to maintain a unified look, and will hopefully allow end users in future releases to manage, place, and adjust the status bar as well as place each icon within it. status bar. This design further eases the burden on mod authors who wish to display status indicators without the overhead of developing iWant Widgets widgets or SkyUI widgets.

in game

Load the plugin and the mod will automatically start running. The available columns can then be filled in using the iWant Status Bar Mod. Currently, the mod comes with 4 bars of 25 icons, located in the lower right corner of the screen. It is expected that future releases will have better MCM or alternative user control mechanisms.

Why?

Because Skyrim UI modding is so difficult! It's really, really hard. The good news is, I think using iWant Widgets can make it much easier. But even after crossing the Flash divide, setting up and managing widgets still requires some work. When I finished wrapping the iWant Widgets, I didn't find it too difficult, but I wanted something simpler. This is an attempt to make it a quick way for people like me who just want to display simple indicators without having to put a lot of effort into indicator management. Load icons without thinking about the UI. When you need to update something, a simple setIconStatus("MyMod", "CoolStatus", status) command will give you the new status on the display.

test! I do a lot, but I am one and you are many. Please test and log any bugs you find.

User control. The best in MCM today are technology demos (or better yet, placeholders). For general use, it is recommended not to use it yet. The bigger idea was in my original plan, and the mod has (I think) all the features I need. Three major problems prevented these ideas from appearing in the initial version. First of all, writing MCM is boring and I'm tired of iWant Widget. It's not terrible, but you have a lot to pack, and that's all you really care about. Second, I'm seeing in some circles that communities, at least those with larger load orders, are starting to hit the SkyUI 128 MCM limit. As my brain cells started to return after the iWant Widgets development marathon, I started thinking about how to avoid MCM, and when I should do it. I certainly don't want us to go back to the power and debug menus for configuration, but now that we have better UI access, maybe other solutions will emerge. Better configuration management with iWant...maybe time will tell.

Automatically hide, change display, key display, key switching, etc. All of this works with user controls. Implementing them requires a way for users to control them so that they can function.

feedback! I plan to make it simple for users and mod developers. Let me know what works and what doesn’t————————————————————————————————

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
