introduce

Ever wanted to play a hermit transsexual, but as you played, you became another generic mage adventurer because your Speechcraft was destroyed faster than you could just by selling your loot? Ever find it odd that with each playthrough, your character ends up converging into the same Mary Sue character you last played, despite your best intentions to begin with? Do you think it's stupid to think that the skill usage mechanic involves endlessly sneaking up on enemy walls? While the system is great for those who play through the game once and move on, it still leaves a lot to be desired for repeat playthroughs. Gold is XP redesigned the leveling system in Skyrim SE to alleviate these issues.

Require

+ SKSE

Any version released for SE will do. Gold XP will not run without SKSE.

+ SkyUI

This is required for MCM for Gold Is XP to work. I only tested SkyUI version 5.2

feature

+Gold is XP

After collecting a certain amount of gold in each level (including gold from selling items), you can now level up instead of leveling up normally. Don't worry, gold is XP that tracks all the gold you earn, you don't need to hoard it to level up. You can spend freely. Gold is XP's leveling system doesn't care how you do it, just the rewards you get for doing so. This is awesome because no matter how you complete the mission, the rewards are the same. For example, choosing to pickpocket someone and steal their possessions will net you the same amount of XP as killing them and looting their body.

+You can master your own skills

As you level up, you can spend your earned skill XP to balance your skills through the menu. What levels you choose and what you don't choose really affects the character your character plays. When playing a game, you no longer have to think about how to play the game to improve the skills you want. You don't need to take more hits to balance your armor skills, or cast spells in combat to upgrade certain skills. Use the character you made to build the way you want instead of playing how the game forces you to play the character you want.

+sleep to level

Get Gold XP immediately after earning gold. While you sleep, Gold Is XP checks to see if you have earned enough Gold XP. This is mostly to prevent players from being ambushed by the skill upgrade menu in combat, but it's Le Immersive so I'd call it a feature.

+ Skill books and pursuit level skills no longer benefit from hoarding

In Skyrim SE, it is advantageous to postpone reading skill books and complete tasks with skill levels as rewards. In Gold is XP, these upgrades are detected and do not increase the cost of leveled skills. Adjusting the skill level to 99 instead of reading the skill manual requires the same total skill XP as reading the skill manual, then adjusting the skill level to 100.

+ Gold XP needs to grow exponentially

This is essentially a soft level cap. You can't max every skill to 100, not even close. By default, reaching level 50 should feel roughly the same as in Skyrim, but you'll notice that the cost of levels increases significantly. At higher levels, the cost of adding 7 levels is roughly equal to the entire cost of upgrading to the current level. Not only does this make your character more interesting, it also means the world of Skyrim won't be overshadowed by your moon.

+Skill improvements brought by character creation will not increase leveling costs

This function is exactly the same as the skill book system. For example, if you choose to play as Khajiit in Skyrim SE, your skill level is increased to 10. This usually won't affect your game. It now costs 20% less Skill XP to sneak together as Khajiit and Nord. This feature stacks with skill books, quests with skill rewards, etc. It should also detect changes in character creation …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
