FLORA RESPAWN FIX

"Engine error? What is that?"

Flora Respawn repair xbone

What it can do:

You've encountered this bug even if you don't know about it. Every time you go to a place after a battery reset and wonder "hey, why haven't those factories regenerated yet?" it's this mistake. When you go to Solitude and you see those Nightshades and you go get a cup of coffee and come back and restart the game and they're gone, that's the bug. FloraRespawnFix.esp fixes this error.

See, there's been a bug in the Skyrim engine since patch 1.3 where it doesn't "remember" that plants, mushrooms, nests and some salmon have respawned after you reload a save. So you might go to a place again and see that everything is as it should be (i.e. has respawned), and then if you save and reload... poof! No more. You have to wait for the cell to reset again. You probably won't notice it unless you look for it, but I've seen it explained as "oh plants take 30 days to regenerate" (they don't, they usually regenerate when the cells they reset are - like anything else), or that certain plants just don't regenerate (they all should), or whatever. No, wrong. Most players are used to it.

Well, they don’t have to adapt to it anymore. This mod cannot directly fix Skyrim.exe, but it can change the way the executable handles these flora and fauna so that they are no longer affected by the bug.

Flora Respawn fixes thread on Bethesda forum site

Big thanks to zilav for his work on TES5Edit, and to DayDreamer (wasite?) for suggesting it to him in the first place (and doing a lot of testing and letting me know about it). Their efforts and time were more than my own. Thanks.

Install:

Place the contents of the archive in the Skyrim/Data directory. Available for Mod Manager.

Don't clean this mod. It's not required and TES5Edit will break it if you do it.

compatibility:

Most things are compatible unless they edit the underlying FLOR and TREE records. In particular, mods that place new instances of vanilla colonies or move existing vanilla plants are compatible.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Will this mod fix anything I've already harvested?

A: People keep asking this question in the comment thread, and I thought I'd explained how well this works, but apparently not. I'll try again:

The rule is: anything that has never been harvested before will be repaired automatically. There is no need to worry about it at all. It just works. However, your previous harvest will not be fixed until you install this mod and harvest again.

So, for example, if there are 50 plants in an area, but you only harvest one of them, 49 of them will be fixed as soon as you install the plugin, and you don't have to worry about them at all. That's the only one you need to harvest once before repairing it. This is why when you visit an area after installing this mod, if you want to regenerate any plants, you should harvest them immediately if they have already regenerated.

If you think about it, the reason is obvious: FloraRespawnFix hasn't solved it yet! Since it's not fixed, if you don't harvest it right away, but save the game and reload, it will disappear! Remember, it's still broken until you harvest it! So, you have to wait for it to respawn again.

If you don't want to go through the trouble, you can leave the broken stuff behind. Just ignore what you have gained and let those things remain broken. There is no harm in doing this.

IMO, most people will just install this mod and forget about it. Just leave the broken, broken stuff behind and know that everything else is fixed. If you want to fix some conspicuous spots that have some vegetation in them, you can choose to do that as well (but again, I can't stress enough that this is an option).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
