About this mod Machine translation

Use ENB complex particle lights as large light sources. Now your torch lights up the grass!

Brief Introduction 98% of you won’t read the entire NOVELLA-SIZED text below

  • Must have ENB 0.362+ and presets, which enable complex particle lights - It is best to use the latest ENB version because of various bug fixes
  • Complex Particle Lights - The DistanceFadexxx settings (all of them) must be set to the minimum value (0.3) or the torch's light radius is very small. If the light is too bright or dim, you may need to adjust the intensity setting.
  • Download the mod and install using mod manager - Select MINIMAL INSTALL
  • Make sure the esp is loaded after any torch models you may have
  • If something goes wrong, don't complain before taking the time to read the novella - at least read the known issues. I will ignore any questions that have already been answered below.

If you want a complete installation, you must read all the details.

describe

This model uses the complex particle light recently introduced in ENB as a large-scale light source. This is screen space lighting that provides "some" amount of shadows. In short, this effect has two main advantages:

  • No hard limit on how many shadow lights you can have
  • These light sources also illuminate the grass (!!!)

The disadvantage is that the shadow distance is very limited* and these lights are screen space only, meaning they disappear completely once they are off screen. ENB light sources behind you will not emit light. Large objects cast only local shadows, which sometimes look weird. This is an ENB limitation and there is nothing I can do about it. It's also not performance friendly. Gamers with low-end PCs can move better.

Mainly testing 3rd person!!! It may or may not work in 1st person, I have no plans to investigate it right now as I don't play in 1st person.

The model works by adding a large invisible particle system to each of the common fire effect meshes such as torches and braziers. This is necessary because visible flame particles by themselves do not emit enough light to serve as a useful light source. Because of how ENB works (and a big thanks to Boris for giving me the tip), you can have a particle that is invisible on the screen, but produces lighting with the appropriate settings. To avoid overexposure, the intensity of each actual light source typically placed on the mesh must be reduced. Directly killing vanilla lights is not feasible because even at its maximum, the particle light's range is still quite limited. I think combining the two is the best compromise. This system is far from perfect (I doubt Boris/ENB's creator/intended his influence to be abused to this extent) but is still a big improvement. By far the biggest advantage is that your torch (and all other flames) will light up the grass at night. This is huge for immersion.

Apparently this mod requires ENB 0.362 and above.

This is a BETA release

The main goal at the moment is to get feedback on the playability of the mod and, if possible, get some help making it easier to use (see the technical details and read the issue of editing lights). At this stage I am not provided with permission to play the game within the game other than downloading it. Not sharing or releasing patches or mods or anything. Definitely not uploaded anywhere else! This mod is and will remain EXCLUSIVE.

That being said, if you're an expert on particles or scripts or anything I messed up and you know how to make it better, please do let me know.

Once I have the core functionality of this mod working well I'll turn things on, but adding patches for other mods at this stage would make too much noise. I'll probably only be able to provide very limited support at that point because I want to spend the limited time available on extending lighting to all fire effects.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
