Easier knocking
Entering the house by knocking on the door, no SKSE required, works dynamically on all dlc locations, and the mod's locations have been added (the RefType of the location has been handled correctly) (like CRF, etc.). So no major patch is needed. There is no update of DLL or SKSE involved. Intimidation fails the criminal system. Feel the real knocking sound in Skyrim VR!

This mod came about because I refused to accept SKSE in order to make something like Chesko's mod "Simply Knock".
It took me months of bashing and cursing, but eventually, I found the solution. Wych led me to this point. Can you say I was inspired? Yes, but my mod takes a completely different approach that I think is less intrusive and suitable for all games.
This mod activates like CC content. This means that after helgen's virtualization tutorial phase (when the mission "Unbound" starts), if you use Alternate start, wait a few seconds after choosing your fate with the Mara statue, and if you use "Random Start" wait 30 seconds after spawning the character.
But first, what does this mod actually do?
- "Simple Knock" is a method of dynamically knocking on the habitation system, knocking on someone else's door is as simple as activating the door you want to knock on (conditions: don't move, don't sneak), eventually a search mark will appear on the door, hold E (to activate the button, e.g. grab an item) or knock.
- Next step? One of the owner's voices will answer and you will basically have two options, convince or intimidate the input:
1- You are the friend of the specific owner of the house and are responsible for knocking on the door and he/she will let you in. You don't trespass.
2-You are not a friend:
2a- Try to convince yourself that if you fail, you will be in "trouble". In this state, you cannot knock on the door. Wait until it fades away, (or use other unconventional means to get in, if you are blessed by Dibella then you will be safe from "trouble"). Upon success, the owner will let you in and you will not trespass.
2b - Try to intimidate the owner, if this fails, the owner will become enraged, will not open the door, will call the guards, and will add the bounty. Upon success, the owner will allow you in, but based on the owner's confidence, two things will happen.
2ba - The owner will run away from you in fear, but you still won't trespass.
2bb - The owner and all other residents will ambush you, but you still haven't invaded.
-Successful persuasion and intimidation improve voice skills
-The difficulty of the Persuasion and Intimidation tests is completely randomized, having more verbal skills will significantly help them.
That’s it! Very simple, right? And it should feel like a realistic act...
Now I will explain the main differences with "Simply Knock"
advantage:
-This mod is SKSE free, no DLLs involved, no broken mods when updating SKSE.
- This mod dynamically obtains the homeowner's voice type, in an alternative way of "simple knocking", no speaking activator is required, no need for a lot of references or scripting dynamics to obtain the homeowner.
- This mod is compatible with all RefType Location systems of the game, in short, it is not limited to specific homeowners. A very simple script will find people in a house and find up to 4 house owners if the location is a parent of the keyword "Habitation" and has a "Boss" RefType and a "Location Center marker". Each of them might respond to a knock on the door in a random way. This is the official system for how locations are handled, major games use it, mods like "Cutting Room Floor" use it, and all mod authors should use it in their mods.
shortcoming:
- When activating a door before the quest marker appears and subsequently being able to knock on the door, the game may take 0 to 15 seconds to calculate correctly.
FAQ
Can this mod be considered a script heavy mod?
No, it's 9kb (simple knock is 798kb). Also all handled by 1 task.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
