About this mod Machine translation

Introduced 32 new followers on their own custom frames that are no longer protected by the vanilla system once their health is low. These include reconstructed taverns and guild fans that will repopulate upon death.

Overview:

In short, this mod:

  • Added 20 universal, respawned, followers for various inns and guilds in Skyrim
  • Added 12 unique, non-respawn minions for different hotels and some non-traditional locations
  • All followers from this mod can die from anything. Enemies will continue to target and hit these minions until they die
  • All followers are on a separate frame. You can bring a Dragon Fodder minion and a vanilla minion and a pet
  • Don't change any vanilla minions. They function exactly as before, and their attacks against most enemies are still immortal
  • Not a complete standalone follower pack (e.g. the follower's appearance will be different depending on which skin retexture you use). The hairstyle shown in the screenshot is included with this mod.

inspiration:

I like the idea of minions in Skyrim, but have always found them to be overkill most of the time. I want to be able to travel the open road, explore dark dungeons with a loyal companion by my side, have someone to help me in combat, someone to drink in an inn, or even just for more purpose crafting and finding gear that my own character won't use.

The problem is always the same though: my followers are invincible. Only in very specific and rare circumstances will they die. I've never cared about their well-being and know they'll probably be just fine no matter what threats we encounter. This resulted in me never using more than a few different minions per match, and often dismissing the ones I had to play solo to create a more challenging game.

I think back to TES 4: Oblivion and how each guild had reborn universal followers that could, and often did, die while joining your adventure.

I thought, why not for Skyrim?

describe:

Dragon Fodder - Mortal Followers introduces a custom follower framework in which followers are no longer marked as essential or protected by their actor profile, or as part of a hidden "conversation mission" that sets any active follower as protected. This mod only affects the followers introduced in this mod and does not change the vanilla follower framework nor make any changes to vanilla followers. The Dragon Fodder framework is almost identical to the vanilla framework and should be compatible with your favorite follower management mode.

Dragon Fodder introduces two types of followers: Respawning and Unique. All followers of both types have the Lightfoot perk (cannot lure traps).

Reborn followers are divided into two categories: recruits and veterans. The only differences between these categories are their minimum and maximum levels, and their starting gears. Spell casters will use different spells between recruits and veterans; usually more powerful versions of the same spell type (e.g. Firebolt instead of Flames). Reborn minions can be easily identified in the game by their cast name (eg: "Warrior Recruitment", "Spellsword Veteran"). After death, reset actors can be recruited again from their hometown after the community resets, usually 10 days into the game.

Unique followers are named after the actor with various spells/perks and a special item: their souvenir souvenir. Unique minions do not respawn, and upon death they are gone forever. Unique minions have a wider and higher level range than reborn minions. All unique minions have healing spells to help keep them alive. Spellcasters mix low-level and high-level spells, making them more powerful at higher levels and providing "bonuses" to make them last longer. Minions can be uniquely identified in the game by their initials: they all use the initials "DF".

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
