Contrast Adaptive Knife Sharpener for ENB (SE and VR)
Is SkyrimVR too blurry? Feel like your character needs Lasik? Use it, lower your supersampling, and install that graphics mod you've been eyeing but never had enough room for. Or maybe you're playing SE and want better sharpening without Reshade - this should help you too.

About a year ago, AMD released an algorithm called Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), which respects local contrast so it can sharpen blurry parts of an image and have a lighter touch on already sharpened parts. When the game uses TAA (
This mod is a conversion of this pencil sharpener to ENB. This can be added to almost any ENB to make the ENB's color grading and effects clearer.
I mainly made it for Skyrim VR, which has very aggressive TAA filters that make you feel myopic. (SkyrimVR supports ENB, but not Reshade). It's also useful in Skyrim SE if you don't want to just run Reshade on ENB for sharpening.
How to use
This is not a full ENB, just a (modular) shader, so you need to have ENB installed already
Download the mod. Copy the enbeffectpostpass.fx and enbeffectpostpass.fx.ini files to your enbseries/ folder,
overwrite existing
Open ENB settings in game
In game, make sure "EnablePostpassShader" is checked in the left column under "Effects." If you want your sharpener to be more aggressive, expand "Enbeffectpostpass.fx" in the right column and adjust the sharpness to your taste.
Compatibility Statement
This works for most ENBs because by default all they do in the post pass shader is blur + sharpen the image (and this shader is a better version of SkyrimVR).
SGSRules' High Fidelity ENB also does sharpening by default. It's also very good :) If you want to try using my sharpener, disable its sharpener to avoid sharpening the image again.
FAQ
Q: I'm playing SkyrimVR, which ENB do you recommend?
A: The best setup I've found is the Glow-in-the-Dark ENB + this knife sharpener. Detailed instructions here:
Q: My ENB preset works in enbeffectpostpass.fx which I want to keep, can I still use this sharpener?
Answer: You must merge the code rather than replace the entire file.

Intro
About a year ago AMD released an algorithm called Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) which respects local contrast, so it sharpens blurry parts of the image and has a lighter touch on parts that are already sharp. This is especially useful when a game uses TAA ( There's an open-sourced ReShade shader from Marty McFly here: (he deserves most of the credit for this!)
This mod is a conversion of that sharpener to ENB. It can be added on to almost any ENB to get that ENB's color grading and effects with a sharper picture.
I primarily made this for Skyrim VR, which has a really aggressive TAA filter that makes you feel nearsighted. (SkyrimVR supports ENB, but not Reshade). It could also be useful in Skyrim SE if you don't want to run Reshade on top of your ENB just for sharpening.
How to Use
This isn't a full ENB, it's just a (modular) shader, so you'll need to have an ENB installed already
Download the mod. Copy the enbeffectpostpass.fx and enbeffectpostpass.fx.ini files into your enbseries/ folder,
overwriting the existing ones
Open ENB settings in the game
In the game, make sure to check "EnablePostpassShader" in the left column under "Effect". If you want the sharpener to be more/less aggressive, expand "Enbeffectpostpass.fx" in the right column and adjust the sharpness amount to your taste.
Compatibility Notes
This works with most ENBs since by default all they do in the postpass shader is blur+sharpen the image (and this shader is a better version of that for SkyrimVR).
The High Fidelity ENB from SGSRules also does sharpening by default. It's quite good too:) If you want to try my …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
