Elegant weapons unique to SSE

The owner of the Elven style draws inspiration from the history of Elf and is now looking for a new owner. Butterfly is a sword concept I've had for a few months and wanted to see if I could bring it to life. The entire guard of the sword is made of butterfly wings. It goes without saying that this sword is more of a fantasy than a killer. However, if you're looking for an aesthetic that's more in line with your character's style, this is the weapon for you. For the broadsword style, the sword has been balanced to be damaged and moderately heavy.

To obtain the weapon, there are several ways to grab it. The weapon has been script-injected into the vendor list, so if it appears in the store you can potentially buy one of them directly. If you prefer to find this sword in the world, there is a worn version lying on a tree stump by the river (see the location image below for more details). If you prefer just making swords, you can find it in the ebony section. Once you have Ebony smithing unlocked, you can craft any version of the sword, assuming you have the appropriate materials. Since this sword is a butterfly design, you will need to catch some butterflies during your journey to craft materials. Weapons can be tempered on the whetstone. The last way to obtain the sword is through the debug command. If you search 'help butterfly 4' you can get weapons this way.

How do I install the mod?

Use your preferred mod manager or manually extract all files into the data folder.

How do I know the mod is installed correctly?

When you first start a new game with a character or load a model, you'll see a notification in the upper left indicating that the sword has been installed.

The texture/mod seems to be missing when I install it, how do I fix this?

Make sure you place the files in your data folder and follow this guide here

Do I need to create a base patch?

No, the mod does not change any vanilla level lists. The script is used to inject the sword into the vendor.

I don't see the sword appearing in any of the vendors?

You may need to wait a few days in the game for the cells to reset. The likelihood of the weapon showing up is slim, so even then, not all vendors will sell it regularly.

Can I translate the video review of your mod?

Feel free to make any comments or translations if you wish.

Do you have any requirements for future weapons?

I don't take requests, but I have fun and I mostly just make what I want when I have time.

Will you port this weapon to Legendary Skyrim?

I have no plans to move my mod backwards. These days I play exclusively with SSE and have built mods to work with SSE from the beginning (it uses different nif and texture formats). I'm not sure if there is a way to restore Nifs backwards unless I rebuild it and I really don't want to go through that trouble. I'd rather spend my time producing more SSE content for the future.

Legendary Edition is great (played for years) and still has a lot of players I know, but SSE also needs some mods that are unique to it. The more content SSE starts to have, the more content it will have here. The game is more stable and getting better every day, with all the great SKSE related mods coming out and slowly being ported. I wanted to support this movement with my own mods that can only be played on SSE, so the game has something worthwhile that Legends can't offer. It has nothing against legendaries, I just play SSE and want to make mods for it.

Will this be coming to Xbox soon?

There are no plans to do so now. I don't have a copy of SSE on my xbox (so can't test things) and I really don't want my mod to be managed on beth.net right now.

I really don't like the 'X' on the sword can you change it?

If it's a matter of statistics, you can open the creation toolkit and adjust any values to your liking. If it's about the design of the sword I won't make changes, I do what I want.

I make everything from scratch whenever possible. No assets are u …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
