A file that brings racial compatibility to Bagserk's berserk race, allowing the use of racial compatibility based mods.

question

If you're a berserk fan, Bagserk's berserker race model is a great mod for the original Skyrim. However, the original mod is now quite old and was written before some of the race improvement libraries, most notably the racecompatibility mod which prevents certain issues with custom races. It's also a mod for le, so it won't work directly on se.

solution

Please follow these instructions:

Go to Bagserk's website (backup mirror) to download "Rush Race 0.6" and "guts Update".

Extract the contents of the data folder (not the data folder itself!) in Rampage Race 0.6 to a new folder, which will be the main folder for the Rampage Race mod. Don't close 7zip! This new folder should contain meshes, scripts, sounds, textures, and berserkraces.esm.

In the optional folder, extract the contents of the x117 skeleton/data into the Berserk Races folder you just created. This is necessary for the game "Witch of the Forest" to work correctly, without it the game will start when you select "Witch of the Forest".

Extract the data folder contents from the guts update (file is "Update guts(0.61).7z") on the berserk races mod extracted in step 3. Files should be overwritten here. At this point, there should only be four folders and berserkraces.esm in the folder.

Download racecompatibility as it is a requirement for this mod.

Open berserkraces.esm from the building kit as the active mod and save it, converting it to 44 format. This will allow it to work with SSE. Note that you will not be able to open the ESM directly because the build toolkit does not allow you to open the ESM for editing. You have to use WyreBash or Xedit to change it to esp, save it, and then change it again. See below for details. Alternatively, you can obtain a saved ESM from a backup image.

Download this mod, then install racecompatibility, the contents of the berserk races folder above, and then install this mod in that order.

Have fun! I recommend using the race compatibility dialogue SSE and enjoy being discriminated against in Skyrim!

Someone will inevitably ask, "Why is it not recommended to run the NIF optimizer/cathedral optimizer on these files?" The simple answer is that every time I do this and then try to create a character using the berserker race, I get an instant CTD. So I recommend not doing this for now.

Change ESM to ESP

Wilbas

Open Wyre bash and find berserkraces.esm.

Right-click and select "Copy this file to ESP".

This will give you a file called berserkraces.esp. This is the file you should keep in your build kit.

Delete berserkraces.esm as you will replace it in the next step.

After saving berserkraces.esp open wyre bash and right click on it. Then select "esmify file". This will recreate berserkraces.esm but in sse format.

Delete berserkraces.esp.

XEDIT

Open berserkraces.esm in xedit and find its header section.

In the file header there is a section called "Record Flags". It should contain "ESM". Right-click the space above the ESM and next to "Record Flags" to get a list of available flags.

Uncheck "esm" and close xedit, saving berserkraces.esm on exit.

Rename berserkraces.esm to berserkraces.esp.

Open the file in the build toolkit and save it, then reopen it in Xedit.

Again, find the "Record Flags" section and right-click on the space to get the inventory. This time, check the ESM.

Save and exit as before, then rename the file to berserkraces.esm.

The Problem

Bagserk's Berserk Races mod is a great mod for the original Skyrim, if you're a Berserk fan.  The original mod, however, is now very old, and was written before a number of race improvement libraries, most notably the RaceCompatibility mod that prevents certain problems with custom races.  It's also a mod for LE, and thus won't work directly on SE.

The Solution

Just follow these instructions:

Go to …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
