About this mod Machine translation

Added a full LOD tree for each major hold with their respective banners, some plants and smaller trees, idle markers for sandbox NPCs, and fixed various issues. Consider mathy's 3DTrees.

Initially, I was going to cover each tree with a tree; but I came to the conclusion that one larger tree is better than multiple trees scattered across the database for several reasons: visual effects, performance, and compatibility. I went through several iterations and believe what I ended up with is good.

Affected cities: Markarth, Riften, Solitude, Whiterun, Windhelm

What this mod requires:

Each maintains a full LOD tree and banner (the Whiterun tree has collision markers placed around it to prevent clipping due to zooming in CK and no direct mesh editing); some plants and smaller trees (mainly Solitude and Whiterun)

Idle and furniture markers (mainly used by companions, but sandbox NPCs too - for example, in Markarth the blacksmiths Ghorza and Tacitus will be sitting on the edge of a waterfall)

Mulush, Markarth's smelter overseer, now has a suit of orc armor and a mace. Because SMOrc.

Various issues I found have been fixed. A piece of the Markarth Blacksmith's navmesh that has no connection to the rest; a navmesh at the border of the Markarth Blacksmith's cell has been added, which fixes NPCs (especially the patrolling guards) getting stuck on the side of the stairs; Improved the Markarth Blacksmith's navmesh around the water (I've tested it thoroughly, and while NPCs might not like the path there, they certainly can); the waterfall above the Markarth Blacksmith is slightly clipped into the mountain; Markarth Blacksmith The waterfall at Keep caused a setback, which has been resolved by using two smaller waterfalls (a similar problem existed on the bridge near the Markarth Mine); the grate within the Solitude Wall has been repositioned to be visible; the mountain netting near the Bards College Gardens has been clamped to the wall; the brazier at Dragonsreach has been aligned correctly; and the brazier embers at the entrance to Whiterun have been reduced to a proper brazier.

No vanilla reference/navmesh was removed; my edit was intentional.

Require:

No. Although this pattern was created using mathy's 3DTrees and plants (which I highly recommend), it wasn't a difficult request. I can't guarantee ideal results with other tree models, but I don't think it's too bad. If you're curious, give it a try :) So I would list 3DTrees as a requirement before downloading.

Compatibility/loading order:

Placed with other city overhauls. Should be partially compatible with other city mods, but it comes down to which mod you want to start with. If you're just looking for a tree location, place it above other cities for an overhaul. If you want other features of this mod, please put it under Other City Overhaul. Regardless of load order, you may get additional features from this mod, but not all of them. Of course I would love compatibility patches for the mod and plan to make them in the future if no one else does.

performance:

This mod adds 5 full LOD tree models - meaning their models will be fully rendered and visible anywhere on the map (same as keeping banners). I can't say exactly how much performance this requires, but on a decent rig I wouldn't worry about it. If you have potatoes, you might be worried. Even so, maybe not a huge hit.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
