alternative statistical system
what is it?
With the vanilla system, the mage with max magic skill might only have 100 mana, which is pretty stupid. Rather than having your health/mana/stamina determined by the often arbitrary decisions on the upgrade screen, this mode causes those stats to be determined by the player's skill. This is a port of the Oldrim version that has been in use since 2013.
You don't have to start a new game, it will work on existing saves.
How do skills affect stats?
All skills affect statistics in different ways. Those who wear heavy armor gain increased strength and constitution. Those who specialize in locking are extremely dexterous.
strength? dexterity? What?
Acting as the middleman between H/M/S, all skills change 6 attributes, which then go on to affect health, magic, and stamina. These statistics include strength, agility, stamina, intelligence, willpower, and personality. Statistics such as carry weight (customizable via the MCM menu), health recovery rate, stamina regeneration rate, magic recovery rate, movement speed, and shout recovery are all affected by these statistics and will gradually scale throughout the game. These bonuses aren't overpowering (I don't want to be a hard sell), but compared to the new characters, it's definitely worth noting.
By default, carry weight = 250 + 1/2 * (average of health + stamina). "250" and "1/2" can be modified through the mcm menu.
Your health regeneration rate will be from 1 -> 1.10 (health regeneration is increased by 10%). Strength is the main attribute of this one. The constitution is secondary.
Your stamina regeneration rate will be from 1 -> 1.15 (15% stamina regeneration). Agility is the main attribute in this regard. The constitution is secondary.
Your magicka regeneration rate will be changed from 1 -> 1.20 (magic regeneration is increased by 20%). Intelligence is the primary statistic in this regard. Wisdom is secondary.
Your speed will go from 1 -> 1.1 (10% speed increase) and will depend on Strength, Dexterity and Constitution with Strength and Dex being affected the most.
Your call recovery time will be from 1 -> 0.8 (call recovery time is 20% faster) and depends on personality.
The magnitude of these values comes from the charm/blessing of vanilla. If you use an uncapper and gain a skill above 100, these values will scale accordingly.
If you're curious about the math behind the mod, you can modify the Excel sheet included in the download.
Require
To use this mod, you must have SKYUI (and therefore SKSE). Why do you need SkyUI? Enable the mod via the MCM and you can customize the mod via the MCM menu.
If you don't like the mod then you can "uninstall it" via the MCM menu, which will stop this mod's scripts from running and provide a cleaner save game after uninstalling. You can then use the console to reset the statistics to whatever you choose.
Compatibility and issues
This mod is compatible with most mods. Uncapper, Skyre, Vokrii, Ordinator, Experience and more. It is not compatible with other mods that do similar things with HMS.
Requiem will change your starting skills, thereby lowering your starting health level to an ABYSMAL level. I recommend modifying the Min Stat to 90-100 and the Slope to 5. This should make the early game bearable without changing the late game.
There's an issue, I can't disable the "You've leveled up! Choose an attribute!" on the skills page when you go to distribute your extra points. No matter what stats you choose on this page, this mod will be disabled when you run around. There is a mod called SAAL that uses an edited Flash file to disable some of the information, but it still tells you that you are increasing a stat. Whatever stat you select on this page …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
