3D miscellaneous block texture map repair

by cthunsthrall·v1.0·Updated 2020-04-22

Fixed mathy79's issue with Skyrim 3D Misc where tiles in snowy/grey areas (and areas used for execution) were remapped to vanilla textures that wouldn't work with the new mesh's UV map. New textures for Snowy Chopping Board, Unclean Chopping Board and Bloody Chopping Board, and a plugin to map them.

The best way to see this mod is to look at the images. If you're not using Skyrim 3D Misc or a similar tool, the chopping blocks in Solstheim or the snowy areas (as well as some of the bloody execution blocks in the world) will look messy. The game uses the same mesh for each type of cutting board and swaps textures at runtime via the plugins Skyrim.esm and Dragonborn.esm. But S3D Misc doesn't replace those textures, it only has textures for normal chopper blocks. Also, the plugin uses a generic bark texture to remap the logs anyway, so redoing the logs for different UV mappings will mess up a lot of other things.

The only way to fix this is to either simply turn off texture remapping in the mesh (or disable the texture set in the plugin), or define a new texture set and create a new texture for this UV map. I wanted to keep the unique snow/grey/blood chopping board, so I chose the latter.

ESL tagged plugin. Yes, this is necessary. It doesn't count against your load limit, and there's no reason to load it for zEdit patches or anything like that.

Very unlikely to conflict with anything.

Requires Skyrim 3D Misc (obviously) - This is not a replacement for the Skyrim 3D Misc chopping block and ax pack. You must install two mods.

You should make sure you are actually using Skyrim 3D Misc's chopper meshes and not overwriting them with another mod. Specifically, you want to make sure you are using the following meshes from S3D Misc: woodchoppingblock.nif, woodchoppingblockanimating.nif, and choppingblock01.nif. If you don't use these meshes, this mod will just clutter your chopping board.

Strictly speaking this is a bug fix/patch, but since it contains my original work on top of mathy79, if you want to reuse or reload this mod, you will need his permission as well.

The best way to see what this mod does is just to look at the images. If you use Skyrim 3D Misc without this or something similar, chopping blocks in Solstheim or snowy regions (and a few bloody execution blocks throughout the world) will look really messed up. The game uses the same mesh for every type of chopping block, and simply swaps the textures at runtime via the plugins Skyrim.esm and Dragonborn.esm. But S3D Misc doesn't replace those textures, it only has a texture for the normal chopping block. And regardless, the plugin remaps the logs with generic tree bark textures, so redoing those for a different UV map would mess up a lot of other things.

The only way to deal with this issue is to either simply turn off texture remapping in the mesh (or disable the texture set in a plugin) or to define new texture sets and make new textures for this UV map. I wanted to keep the unique snowy/ashy/bloody chopping blocks so I chose the latter.

Extremely unlikely to conflict with anything at all.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
