STS2Saves 🗂️
**STS2Saves** is a mod for Slay the Spire 2 designed to give you greater control over your game's save files. It auto-archives archives, allows you to create manual snapshots from the pause menu, and adds a browser to load, backup, and delete saved running snapshots.
---
🎯 Module function
- **AUTOMATIC SAVE ARCHIVING**: Whenever the game saves a run in progress, the mod will automatically capture and archive those saves.
- **Manual Save Snapshot**: Adds a manual save button in the pause menu, allowing you to create save points at critical moments (such as elite battles, before boss battles).
- **Archive Browser**: Provides an intuitive interface for browsing, loading, backing up and deleting archived archives and snapshots.
- **Safe recovery and rollback**: Before restoring the archive, a backup copy of the current active archive will be created to prevent misoperation.
- **Export/Backup Function**: You can export a single snapshot or the entire running archive to a disk folder for easy sharing or migration.
- **Supports single-player and multi-player**: Supports archive management of both single-player and multi-player games (host).
🚀 Detailed explanation of main features
1. Automatic archiving
When "Slay the Spire 2" writes the currently running save, STS2Saves will copy the save to its own archive.
- Auto-saves for single-player games will be automatically archived.
- Multiplayer console auto-save will also be archived by default.
- Automatic archives are grouped by the run they belong to.
- The default retention mode retains only the latest 10 autosaves for each run.
2. Save snapshot manually
While the game is running, two new options will be added to the pause menu:
- `Save`: Create a manual snapshot of the current run.
- `Load`: Opens the archive browser for the current mode.
**💡 When to use**: Manual snapshots are very useful before engaging in high-risk events, elite battles, boss battles, or changing routes.
3. Archive Browser
The Archive Browser is the primary interface for managing archived runs.
**How to open**:
- `Continue` button from the main menu (for single player).
- `Load` process from a multiplayer game (for multiplayer games).
- `Load` button from the in-game pause menu.
**Operations that can be performed in the browser**:
- Browse archived runs.
- Expand a run to see the `automatic` and `manual` save groups.
- Check the archive details in the right panel.
- Load the selected snapshot.
- Back up selected snapshots or entire running archive.
- Delete selected snapshots or entire archived runs.
4. Safe recovery and rollback
When you restore a snapshot, the mod will first create a rollback copy of the currently existing active save file. The selected archive snapshot is then written back to the game's active archive location.
**🎯 BENEFITS**: This gives you a safety net in case you restore the wrong snapshot, or want to check what was replaced.
5. Export/Backup
The `backup` operation exports the files to a normal folder on disk.
- Backing up a snapshot exports the `.save` file and its metadata `.json`.
- Backing up a run exports the entire archived run folder.
**📁 Purpose**: This is useful for sharing test status, keeping a running record before cleaning, or migrating archives between different devices.
⚙️ Installation Guide
Option 1: Install the packaged version
If you already have a built release ZIP file, unzip it into your Slay the Spire 2 `mods` folder, making sure the mod manifest and DLL files are in a folder structure similar to this:
```
Slay the Spire 2/
mods/
STS2Saves/
STS2Saves.dll
STS2Saves.json
```
Option two: Build from source code
This project targets Godot.NET and references the game DLL directly from your local installation of Slay the Spire 2.
**Build command example**:
```powershell
dotnet build D:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Slay …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
