This is the basis of Happiness Factory MOD. All MODs must be downloaded as pre-mods for running.

Before installation, you must install the pre-mods I released, otherwise all MODs will not realize their functions.

feature

A single automatic splitter functions the same as a standard splitter, is the same size, and can be mixed with normal splitters and merges at will.

NEW: You can upgrade your existing splitter to an automatic splitter with a built gun.

The auto-splitter automatically detects all other directly connected auto-splitters and balances the output of the resulting network.

By default, all outputs from a network connected to a computer get the same number of items/minute.

For some outputs (e.g. because the machine is unlocked) you can enter a fixed number of items/minute and the network will adapt to these numbers.

All figures are presented as projects/minute. The rate is based on what you enter as the target input rate for the first splitter in the network.

All automatic splitters display an estimate of the average throughput of recent projects.

New: Auto-splitter can selectively detect excess and deficiencies in downstream plants and adjust project rates accordingly. Enable mod options.

New: Experimental multiplayer support in 0.4.x!

How to use

Just build a regular multimodal distribution line, but replace all splitters with automatic splitters. If you already have a factory (who doesn't?) you can also upgrade your normal splitter to an automatic splitter with a build gun. Feed your manifold and watch in amazement as your line (or belt in this demo) starts up instant, perfectly balanced:

For further information on what's going on in each Splinter's brain, you can interact with it by clicking on "E" or whatever you configure for it:

The UI isn't pretty, but it shows you the output rate for each output, whether the output is in "auto" mode, and whether the next build downstream is another auto-splitter (if the output is in auto mode, the downstream auto-splitter's total required item rate will be automatically assigned to its output band).

You can also see Cycle Progress and the splitter's average project throughput over the past few cycles. In order to distribute items correctly, the splitter calculates a "distribution period". After completing the entire cycle, all outputs will receive their assigned project shares. The length of the cycle is automatically adjusted to balance performance and update speed.

The automatic algorithm assumes that the "final" output of all activities of the automatic splitter network requires the same number of items per minute. The final output of the activity is the output

Not connected to another auto-splitter and at least one belt is connected (the auto-splitter doesn't check if the belt leads to anything useful)

or not in "auto" mode

If some of your machines require more or less items per minute, you can disable the "auto" toggle on their output and enter a manual item rate:

FAQ

After upgrading the splitter, the box around the splitter does not disappear. What can I do?

This is a currently known bug. As a workaround, start building other buildings, such as belts, and then stop building again. The box should disappear

When I upgrade a splitter and there are items coming in but its output lines are blocked, I get some item lines back into my inventory. What is it about?

All splitters have an internal buffer that can hold up to 9 items. The game returns these items to you when you upgrade the splitter, as I haven't found a way to transfer them to the new automatic splitter.

My input tape is not completely full yet. Now the number of Insurgents is wrong!

This will be fixed in a future update. As a workaround, you can build another automat …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
