V2.0 update! Extends the rendered image beyond the display boundaries, fixing screen space effect artifacts at the edge of the viewport. Only two effects are used, with minimal impact on performance. In addition to reducing artifacts, the original style and aesthetics are completely preserved.

Screen Space Shadows and Reflections Fix

🎯 Core Functions

Extend the rendered image beyond the display boundaries with a simple ReShade over-rendering and cropping solution, **effectively eliminating the worst screen space effect artifacts at the edges of the viewport**. Using only two effects, **minimally affects performance**, artifacts are eliminated while **completely maintaining the style and aesthetics of the original**.

✨ V2.0 major improvements

  • Operates completely below the UI, with the ability to scale and crop more rendered images (without affecting the UI)
  • Almost completely eliminates horizontal screen space artifacts at the edges of the screen (the most obvious ones)
  • 100% compatible with almost all other mods, even if they add UI elements
  • Contains a sharpening effect to compensate for the slight blur caused by image enlargement

⚙️ Technical details

**V2.0 is only compatible with DX12** and currently cannot run on Vulkan. ReShade's REST add-on fails to inject effects below the UI under RDR2's Vulkan.

**Not DLAA/DLSS/FSR compatible**, but can be used with the game's "Resolution Scaling" setting to provide better image quality at comparable performance. If you need DLSS for performance, it is recommended to use the game's "Resolution Scaling" setting to 0.8x or 0.75x.

📦 Installation instructions

  • Extract the module file to the RDR2 game directory
  • Download the latest version of ReShade (make sure to select the version with add-on support)
  • Install ReShade for RDR2.exe, select the Vulkan option
  • Install the ReShadeEffectShaderToggler add-on
  • Set effect switching hotkeys
  • Load ReShadeRDR2fix preset

🔧 V2.0 special settings

  • No more need to adjust UI security zone settings
  • Requires AutoHotkey to be installed and use the provided script
  • Automatically disable/enable effects for map functions
  • Contains scripts for AHK v1.1 and v2.0 versions

🎮Compatibility information

  • Controllers are not currently supported (keyboard and mouse only)
  • Fully compatible with most mods
  • Fixed Rampage Trainer alignment issue
  • Alignment issues may occur when browsing directories, it is recommended to use hotkeys to temporarily disable effects
  • The large map function requires automatic processing by the AHK script

💡 How it works

Use the industry-standard over-rendering and cropping method: render an area larger than the viewport and then crop it before displaying it. This allows elements even slightly outside the viewport to be rendered and affect screen space effects.

The V2.0 version fully injects the effect below the game UI through the ReShadeEffectShaderToggler add-on, achieving better compatibility and user experience.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
