LAW - Legal System Overhaul

🎯 **Mod motivation**: Aims to inject more common sense and rationality into the crime system of the original "Red Dead Redemption 2".

**Important Note**: This mod **does not** fix the vulnerability of disguised characters being recognized by law enforcement officers. But it does change the following:

---

🌲 Wilderness Zone

  • **Response Distance**: Law enforcement dispatch response now **really** depends on your distance from town. The map area is divided into several areas:
  • **Rural** ~ 500 meters
  • **Local** ~ 1.5 km
  • **Wilderness** - up to the region/state border, or the edge of the map.
  • 🚫 **No more** law enforcement teams suddenly appear in the wilderness! Unless you are "lucky" and bump into a random patrol (15% chance of spawning).
  • **Police Dog Tracking**: ⚠️ **NOTE**, local and wilderness dispatch teams will now search for you with dogs. (**In the 1.0.2 update, the appearance of dogs will be bound to random probability**)
  • **Crime Scene Response**: After a witness reports a crime, a law enforcement team of appropriate size will go to the crime scene. The higher the wanted level, the more police will come. (**There is currently a bug: extra police officers will only spawn if a witness recognizes you. Will be fixed in the 1.0.2 update**)
  • **Random Patrol**: The size and composition of the patrol is always random. It may be 5 police officers with 2 dogs, or it may be only 1 person. There are also regional random teams, like the armies of the Cumberland Forest or the Wapiti of Grizzly. They may also come to a crime scene.
  • **Low Serious Sex Crimes**: In the wilderness, low serious sex crimes would not attract the attention of the law. Furthermore, there are now areas in the game where even moderately serious sex crimes will not attract law enforcement. Which areas specifically? I won't spoil it, but it's easy to guess: the most remote and/or dangerous places in story mode.
  • **Eliminate a dispatch**: If you kill a dispatch in a local/wilderness area, the dispatch will cease until the next witness appears. But if you shoot law enforcement in a rural area, they will get reinforcements. (**This will change in the 1.0.2 update**)
  • **Bounty Hunters**: ~~Bounty hunter teams have also been changed. ~~ **Please delete the `bountyhunters.meta` file from the mod folder - there is currently a bug. **
  • **Area Coverage**: All areas have been modified, **except**: Vapiti, Guama, Aguas Dulces, El Nido, Manicato, Sisica, Occupied Caravan Camp. These will be added later.

---

🏘️ Town

  • **Town Characterization**: Each town has been given a unique treatment. Remember how the Sheriff swiped right outside the Valentine Tavern? Now they would ride into the town in horse-drawn carriages. Pinkerton detectives, troops, hounds, and Gatling carriages are all waiting for you outside. (**Bounty Hunters will be added in the 1.0.2 update**)
  • **Gatling Wagon**: Currently, the **Gatling Wagon** only appears in the Valentine, Cumberland Forest, and Saint-Denis Countryside areas as an Ultimate Response. To get the full experience, you need to **only use** the **`GatlingWagons.asi`** file downloaded from >> here .
  • **Saint-Denis**: The number of law enforcement officers involved in the same incident in Saint-Denis has increased.

---

⚖️Criminal Conduct

  • **All Crimes In**: No crimes have been disabled, just some of them now work slightly differently.
  • **LEGAL DEFENSE**: You will now not be sentenced for the following actions if for **self-defense** reasons: **assault, lasso assault, unarmed assault, disorderly conduct**.
  • **Unarmed Attack**: ~~Can be triggered if you strike first, but you have time to change your mind. If you end up knocking a passerby unconscious, the law advises you to leave. If you were a serial killer "Boxer" they would stop you. ~~ **After the 1.0.1 hot …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
