Damage system overhaul

🎮 **Version 2.0 has been released in! **Be sure to read the 2.0 Update section below to see all the new changes!

---

✨ Module Introduction

**Damage System Overhaul** Added the possibility of sustaining sustained damage during combat or when a specific part of the body is damaged. Almost all settings can be adjusted in the `ini` file, so be sure to adjust the settings to your liking before you start playing!

---

🤕 Damage type

Arthur (or John) could get hurt. There are **4 types of injuries**: Hand Injury, Head Injury, Leg Injury, and Trauma. These injuries are suffered when the corresponding limb is injured. Each damage has **4 levels**, represented by icon color:

  • ⚪ **Level 1** (white icon)
  • 🟡 **Level 2** (yellow icon)
  • 🟠 **Level 3** (orange icon)
  • 🔴 **Level 4** (red icon)

Each injury changes the way you walk and stand. For example, if you have a leg injury, you will limp.

**🤲Hand injury**

Hand injuries limit your ability to hold and aim a weapon. These injuries are aggravated while aiming and holding the weapon.

  • **Level 1** - Loss health when holding a two-handed weapon.
  • **Level 2** - Loss health when holding a one-handed weapon.
  • **Level 3** - Unable to use two-handed weapons.
  • **Level 4** - Unable to use one-handed weapons.

**🦵 Leg injury**

Leg injuries can limit your ability to run. Riding a horse negates this damage, but sprinting aggravates it.

  • Limp when walking.
  • **Level 1** - Loss health while sprinting.
  • **Level 2** - Lose health while running.
  • **Level 3** - Loss health while walking.
  • **Level 4** - Loss health while standing.

**🧠 Head injury**

Head damage will limit your ability to use Death Eye. Using Death Eye will increase the damage.

  • **Level 1** - The Death Eye sometimes closes automatically.
  • **Level 2** - The Death Eye often closes automatically.
  • **Level 3** - The Death Eye automatically closes very frequently.
  • **Level 4** - Unable to enter the Eye of Death.

**💔 Trauma**

Trauma continues to drain your health over a short period of time. They are stackable and suffer when hit in the chest.

  • Can be healed quickly using unopened health potions.

---

🏥 Treatment

The injury heals very slowly over time. Drinking an unopened Life Potion speeds healing. **Bathing and sleeping** will also significantly increase the speed of recovery from damage.

You can also choose to see a doctor to undo all the damage, but that will come at a hefty price.

🔄 2.0 version update

**Core Relevance**

Damage is now tied to core status:

  • **Vital Core** - Affects trauma.
  • **Stamina Core** - Affects leg and arm damage.
  • **Death Eye Core** - Affects head damage.

This means that depending on how full your core is, the chance of taking damage and recovering later will vary. For example, if your life core is full, you'll be less susceptible to injury, and if you are injured, you'll recover faster.

**💊 Supplements as Pain Relievers**

Strengthening each core (drinking the tonic) will have a different effect on the damage associated with it. For example, drinking bitters will stop all "poison" effects while you are running or holding a weapon. This will also disable the injury animation.

**🐎 Horseback injury animation**

Arthur/John now has different positions on horseback if you're injured!

**🦶 Wounded walking style no longer prevents crouching**

New trauma idle animation and walking style allow for crouching.

**📉 Damage affects your health**

The more damage you accumulate, the slower your stamina and health regenerate.

**⚡ Leg and arm damage now consumes stamina instead of health**

(Can be changed back to health consumption in `ini` file)

**👨‍⚕️ Doctor dialogue rewritten**

Doctor prompts have been rewritten and should work better now.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
