PEAK Ticks 🕷️

Version 1.1.0 — Customize how ticks attach, grow, and affect players across a run.

Walking through whitelisted vegetation can attach ticks. The mod scans each biome segment after you progress (e.g. lighting campfires) to register plants for touch detection — setup is spread across frames to limit FPS spikes. Only 1 tick will attach at a time unless you hit a tick bomb, so pick them off as soon as you get them!

Everyone in the lobby should install this mod so tick rules stay consistent. The host’s config is synced to clients in multiplayer via PEAKLib host handshake + PhotonCustomPropsUtils room properties. If the host does not have the mod, clients disable PEAK Ticks gameplay for that lobby (prevents tick exploits when rules do not match).

Works with Toss a Tick (optional): when both mods are installed and authorized, thrown ticks follow the same attach limits, bodyparts, growth, and status rules as everything else. No Toss a Tick update required for 1.1.0.

Should also work with PEAK Blow Darts for the Tick Blow Gun.

🛠️ Features

Attach

  • 🎯 Attach ticks to random eligible bodyparts (configurable list; one tick per bodypart)
  • 🔢 Support multiple ticks per player (vanilla is 1; configurable up to 18)
  • 🌿 Vegetation attach — walking through whitelisted plants in Shore, Tropics, Roots, Alpine, Mesa, and Gloom (Swamp) can attach ticks
  • 🌑 Gloom foliage — cattails, Venus leaves, and vines in the Swamp Props folders
  • 💣 Tick bomb — rare bursts that attach several ticks at once
  • 🧹 Retires vanilla map TickTrigger spawns when the mod is active (uses mod attach logic instead)

Growth

  • ⏱️ Configurable time to reach full size (vanilla: 300 seconds)
  • 📏 Configurable max scale, or uncapped growth for ever-growing ticks

Poison / Injury

  • ☠️ Configurable pulse interval, flat poison per pulse, and per-tick poison cap
  • 📈 Size-based poison — stronger pulses as ticks grow
  • 🩸 Injury mode — apply Injury instead of Poison while keeping the same pulse tuning
  • ♾️ Optional uncapped status per tick

Removal

  • 👇 Look down at ground to pick ticks off! Easier than raycasting onto the tick!

Multiplayer

  • 🤝 Host must have PEAK Ticks (PEAKLib plugin GUID handshake)
  • 🔄 Host config syncs to joining clients
  • 🚫 Clients cannot use mod tick gameplay when the host lacks the mod

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.

Dependencies

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
