ACOK 6.2 - Combat Overhaul
Hello everyone,
In the last few versions of ACOK, some major changes have been made in terms of weapon and armor rebalancing.
So I was looking into it and discovered that Cozur seemed to draw inspiration from the combat value of 1257AD.
While this is an interesting attempt at revamping combat, it has some flaws as it sacrifices the balance of authenticity.
Furthermore, in stark contrast to the 1257AD, many units had low power strikes in ACOK, making the armored units virtually immortal.
While this may be realistic, it's not very interesting.
Therefore I created a small submod that tweaks a few things:
- Reduced armor soak factor for all damage types. This makes a huge difference across the board, making several weapon types more viable than before (see spears and swords).
- Horse armor value doubled. This makes them less fragile and therefore more effective.
- Spears are much better now, especially in shield walls/ranks. They can actually be decent killers now, almost as good as swords, with better anti-cavalry capabilities.
- Dual Archer/Crossbow Ammo. They also generally deal more damage.
I want to achieve balance by using different types of troops in appropriate situations.
In my experience, in the mid to late stages the battle turns to a heavy infantry dominated affair as the cavalry are driven out and the archers use up their ammunition too quickly. Now, it should be much better. :)
This mod should be savegame compatible. If not, please tell me.
Create a backup of the Module.ini and item_kinds.txt files in the "ACOK 6.2" folder and copy the new files from the .zip file.
Please share any feedback you have. :)
Hi all,
In the latest few versions of ACOK, some big changes were made in regards to weapons and armor rebalancing.
So I was looking into it, and found that Cozur seems to have drawn his inspiration from 1257AD combat values.
While this is an interesting attempt at overhauling the combat, it has some flaws because it sacrifices balance for authenticity.
Also, in contrast to 1257AD, a lot of the troops have low powerstrike in ACOK, making plate armoured troops almost immortal.
Even though this may have been realistic, it just isn't fun imo.
I've therefore created a small submod, which tweaks several things:
- Reduced armour soak factors against all damage types. This makes a huge difference all across the board, and makes several weapon types much more viable then before (looking at spears and swords).
- Horses have their armor values doubled. This makes them a lot less fragile, thus a lot more effective.
- Spears are now much better, especially in a shieldwall/ranked formation. They can actually be decent killers now, almost on par with swords while having better anti-cavalry abilities.
- Doubled archer/crossbow ammunition. They also do more damage in general.
I've wanted to strike a balance where different kinds of troops can be put to use in the right situation.
In my experience, battles turned to heavy infantry dominated affairs during the mid-late phases, because cavalry got de-horsed, and archers depleted their ammo too quickly. Now, it should be a lot better.:)
This mod should be savegame compatible. If not, please let me know.
Create a backup of your Module.ini and item_kinds.txt files in your "ACOK 6.2" folder, and then copy the new ones over from the.zip file.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
