This mod is for those who think volumetric fog occlusion is too much, but think disabling it would make the game too ugly.
Note that this may not significantly increase FPS, or even at all.
This is a REFramework script that allows you to adjust the following parameters:
Volumetric fog resolution
Two hidden low-quality fog resolution options that might slightly improve graphics overhead.
Note that the lowest values are likely to look extremely "blocky".
Ambient light rate and switching
Emission (light?) toggle
Fog culling distance
near fade distance
Close to faded "hardness"(?)
Additionally, you can adjust the following actions that don't seem to work:
Shadow switch
Depth decoding parameters
Volumetric fog softness
Previous frame blending factor
Shadow Culling Blend Factor
Deny sensitivity and switching
leakage deviation
Fog integrated type
Fog jitter noise type
To be honest, I don't really understand any of the parameters in this model, I'm just revealing them from the inside.
Other features:
Most settings are sliders, allowing manual entry. Internal mist settings update in real time so you can preview changes instantly.
Internal fog settings only change on demand, only when you move the slider or the game itself updates the fog settings (such as when the map changes).
The Save button stores your settings so the mod remembers them the next time you launch the game.
The reset button resets all settings to default. Note that this will not be saved to your settings file.
About utility/Statics.lua:
This file is actually a shared library provided by the creator of REFramework. The Disable Post Processing Effects module uses it internally, as does this module. If it already exists, replacing it doesn't matter since both modules use the original, unchanged version of the library.
Recommended settings (what I use):
Volumetric fog resolution: lower
Ambient light: 0.9 (90%)
Launch: enabled
Fog Culling Distance: 1.0 (100%)
Fade distance: 8.0
Fading "hardness": 0.015 (1.5%)
Advanced options: disabled
This mod is heavily inspired by and can be used alongside TonWonton's "Disable Post-Processing Effects" mod.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
