Meccha Chameleon Accessibility Highlight

An accessibility mod for Meccha Chameleon that highlights whistled/called characters.

Features

  • Automatically detects whistle/call sounds and highlights the target
  • Three highlight styles to choose from: glowing light, X-ray outline (chams), or marker box
  • Smart debounce - spamming the whistle input won't spawn duplicate highlights
  • Auto-cleanup - highlights clear themselves after a short duration

Installation

  • Install UE4SS for Meccha Chameleon if you haven't already.
  • Install this mod through your mod manager, or manually extract into Meccha Chameleon's Mods folder.

Choosing a Highlight Mode

Open main.lua (inside Scripts) and edit this line near the top:

local HIGHLIGHT_MODE = "chams"

| Value | Effect |

|---|---|

| "light" | Glowing point light above the character |

| "chams" | X-ray style outline visible through walls |

| "box" | Solid marker box at the character's position |

Save and restart Meccha Chameleon to apply.

Advanced Settings

More options at the top of main.lua:

local WHISTLE_SOUND_KEYWORD = "provoaction" -- sound cue keyword to listen for

local HIGHLIGHT_DURATION_MS = 2500 -- how long the highlight lasts

local WHISTLE_DEBOUNCE_MS = 500 -- spam-prevention window

FAQ

Nothing highlights when I whistle?

Check the UE4SS log for [AccessibilityHighlight] messages. If Meccha Chameleon's whistle sound asset name differs from expected, adjust WHISTLE_SOUND_KEYWORD to match.

Whistling repeatedly spawns multiple highlights?

This shouldn't happen - if it does, please report it along with your UE4SS log output.

Does "chams" work through all walls?

It uses the engine's custom depth/stencil rendering. Visibility through certain wall materials may vary depending on how Meccha Chameleon's specific post-process setup handles custom depth.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
