About this mod Author’s original text

Painting Texture Replacer

Painting Texture Replacer lets you replace the images on the existing vanilla Painting scrap with your own PNG files.

The Painting itself remains completely vanilla. This mod does not add new scrap and does not change spawn chances, scrap value, physics, model, scan node, or any other gameplay behavior.

Adding your own paintings

Place your PNG files in the same plugin folder as PaintingReplacer.dll.

Every filename must:

  • Start with painting
  • End with.png

Examples of valid filenames:

painting.png

painting1.png

painting2.png

painting_family_photo.png

painting-anything.png

You can add as many painting PNG files as you want. The mod scans the folder when it loads and randomly selects one of the available images for each Painting scrap.

Files that do not start with painting are ignored.

Recommended image resolutions

Use a 3:4 aspect ratio for the best result.

  • 243 × 324 — Native resolution, sufficient but with little margin
  • 486 × 648 — Good
  • 729 × 972 — Very good
  • 972 × 1296 — My recommendation

Images with a different aspect ratio are scaled to fit the vanilla Painting canvas and may appear stretched.

Installation

  • Install BepInEx 5 for Lethal Company.
  • Extract this package into your Lethal Company folder, or install it through a compatible mod manager.
  • Keep PaintingReplacer.dll and all painting*.png files together in the same BepInEx plugin folder.

Example:

BepInEx/plugins/PaintingTextureReplacer/

├── PaintingReplacer.dll

├── painting1.png

├── painting2.png

└── painting3.png

Notes

  • Only the visual texture of the vanilla Painting scrap is changed.
  • No LethalLib dependency is required.
  • Texture selection is visual and local; no networking data is synchronized.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.

Dependencies

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
