About this mod Machine translation

Pickups take a different approach to GTA V's Weapon Wheels and Weapon Pickups.

Weapon Wheel -

Before: You have 8 slots that can hold multiple weapons each, essentially allowing you to carry a complete armory in your pocket.

After: You have any number of slots (default 4), each slot can only hold 1 weapon at a time.

Weapon pickup -

Previously: All weapon pickups were automatically picked up, and each pickup always had full ammo, even if the NPC who dropped it had used some. All weapon pickups have no attachments, even if the previous owner equipped them.

After: You can choose to pick up your weapon automatically. You can choose to swap weapons if the slot they belong to is full. If any of the weapons you are currently holding use the same ammo, you can select the ammo automatically or manually. Weapon pickups only contain any ammo left in them by their previous owners. The weapon pickup will come with any accessories used by the previous owner. A popup will show nearby weapon pickups, letting you know their ammo amount and type.

Visible loading -

When enabled, Visible Loadout will display weapons you carry but are not currently using at various attachment points on your player. Each slot has a connection point. If you need more than 4 slots, just copy some of the existing slots in slot.xml. You can also edit their physical attachment points. Since all weapons are different, some weapons have their own attachment offsets to better suit the player. These per-weapon offsets can now be found in pickups.xml.

Some ammo quantities adjusted to be more realistic. All weapons obtained by entering certain vehicles are disabled.

This mod changes many game files. Therefore, it is incompatible with a large number of weapon/realism modes including RDE. If you want to use this mod with any incompatible mods, all you have to do is merge the conflicting files. Any bonus data must reflect the Pickup game file data, otherwise Pickup will not function properly. Ammo types can be changed, but be aware that all inventory ammo types have been removed.

If you merge files to make Pickups compatible with other mods, please generously publish them on GTA5-mods.com so others can benefit from your hard work.

To change the number of slots, you simply edit the data in pickups.xml so that the weapon uses the new slots. If the highest 'group' attribute in pickups.xml is 7, then you will have 8 slots. If it is 3, you will have 4 slots.

You also need the correct texture (in Pickups/Wheel/) to get the number of slots you want to use. I've added templates and textures for the 4 and 8 slots. Use the template to make your own texture for the number of slots you want, then follow the naming scheme I used. The script uses this naming scheme to load the appropriate textures. If they are not found, the script will have no effect.

All data in pickups.xml is editable, so you can change the weapon's display name if you wish. Note that these name changes only affect Pickups scripts. It does not affect inventory weapon rounds or ammo.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
