About this mod Machine translation

machine mind, human body

Automatron AI and body voice follower for standard appearance customization and equipment.

Where to look?

Craft the Wintermute Holotape at any chemistry workbench. Load it and click on the "Add Extras" option in the MOD menu. Select any NPC you want from the SUMMON menu and the master control program will teleport them to your location for immediate use.

How to customize?

The old way - use the control stick to lock the main control program by equipping an NPC or hitting it with your head. You can also change targets by talking to any active follower and selecting the appropriate topic. Then just fire up holotape and start working!

New method - Crouch and select CONFIG option from action menu. The main control program interface will automatically launch with the selected NPC locked for editing.

What can I customize?

Pretty much anything you can imagine - body, face, height, fighting style, voice, facial expressions, body language, bravery, name and more. For complete instructions (seriously out of date), see the Master Control Program manual. The full list of 0.80 names can also be found under the Articles tab (currently but you can name them in Robot Workbench). The feature list of the latest updates is generally sticky in the forum, so remember to check it out.

If you want to use custom body text or face textures, be sure to download the necessary plugin files!

But so much, what do I need to customize?

Absolutely not. All companion ads come with default settings. These are my personal recommendations for new survival games

  • Enable Stimpak usage in the COMBAT menu (repair kits won't even drop until the Automatron DLC level requires making healing-disabled followers impossible)

*Enable refill ammo in COMBAT menu

*If you don't want to double-reply the container later or do the work yourself for xp, enable Lockpicking and/or Hacking

Known issues

*Voice changes take a few seconds to take effect while the game loads files.

*Mods that change the companion system or other core functionality may break Wintermute or make him/her disappear entirely. Picking up Wintermute before activating the relevant mod can fix this issue in some cases.

*Multiple companion mods may work, but in many cases they override automated dialogue to inject their recruiting and firing functionality, overriding Wintermutes.

*A clone cannot have a unique look, instead use the original one

*Ada2Human will override Automatron tasks and break dialogue. Make sure to load Ada2Human before Wintermute and use her with the default voice, Wintermute already has most (if not all) of the lip lines.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
