Wasteland animals: iguanas

As seen in Mutant Zoo: Life Finds a Way

"Wasteland iguanas were notorious critters throughout post-war America. Before the war, they were common herbivorous lizards in Central and South America. They were also common household pets in the United States. Today, like other escaped pet animals in post-war America, they now roam the waste in large numbers. Since iguanas are such a common food source, some traders and butchers try to disguise some of the more questionable meats as iguanas. One such case - "Iguana Bob" Frazier - became a cautionary tale that echoed through the ages. As the story goes, this man was a meat peddler in the American Southwest who would cut human flesh into chunks and sell them as "iguana skewers." Unfortunately for Bob, this bizarre meal item inevitably aroused suspicion and led to many of the iguana salesmen skewering the poor critters whole to eliminate any confusion.

Today, the story of Iguana Bob has given Badlands iguana meat a bad name in much of the United States. The existence of the NCR-focused "Son of Bob's Iguana Bits" franchise also doesn't help alleviate suspicion. However, despite rumors of cannibalism, iguana meat is actually a quality food source. Badland iguanas are highly docile reptiles that are found almost everywhere. Due to certain radiation-induced adaptations, iguanas are more naturally introduced to wildlands than many other exotic animals. Their scales are thicker and denser due to calcification. This tiny mutation acts as some sort of insulation, allowing the cold-blooded iguanas to better conserve their body temperature and hibernate properly even in the more extreme climates of the Badlands. So don't sleep on iguana meat if you can verify its integrity.

You won’t catch me eating them though. Some things are too cute to kill.

What mod is this?

Monsters of the Waste: Iguana is more of a mini-mod, a simple, standalone add-on that introduces a new creature to Fallout 4 as efficiently as possible. The Wasteland Monster Manual is designed as a series of mods that let you introduce new, lore-friendly creatures in simple, bite-sized chunks—with little to no impact on your gameplay or load order. A completely new creature, a script injector task, no additional systems. You'll get a creature, some new loot, a taxidermy recipe, and a creature cage. All designed to blend in with the original Fallout 4. If you're interested in all the creatures found in the mutant menagerie, but don't want all the critters or extra bells and whistles, then the Wasteland Animal Encyclopedia is for you!

What can I find in this mod?

Iguanas are herbivorous reptiles that inhabit most wastelands. You'll find these passive little fruit eaters alongside radiated deer. Hunting them yields iguana fragments - allowing you to reliably provide yourself with iguana soup and iguanas! Their calcified, lightly mutated skin also provides ballistic cloth - a valuable resource for wasteland armorers.

That's all. ESL-tagged ESP, BA2 archives and well-optimized textures. Safely handle virtually any load order. Like I said, easy!

What's next?

These mods are for fans of my creatures who don't want everything the mutant zoo has to offer. I plan to feature many of the most popular critters in a mod like this so you can put together your own collection of creatures for your games. So, let me know which creatures you’d like to see! If enough people request a specific mutant zoo critter, the creature may be moved to the docket. Mutant Zoo is a mod I made for myself and for people who share my preferen …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
