Version 4 features:

Updating to version 4 requires a lot of maintenance and script cleanup to make operations smoother. I added more retro sound effects that fit the backstory (the elevator chime was a bit annoying, so I replaced it with a beep, similar to the sound of a washer dryer in Fallout 76).

There are two types of washing machines. A commercial washing machine requires 5 lids to do laundry (for commercial use), while another requires 2 post-war Abraxo cleaners, 1 undamaged Abraxo cleaner, or 1 industrial grade Abraxo cleaner. The dryer only needs to be washed to work. All loops take 1 hour to complete and provide players with several hours of bonuses. The dryer will prolong these gains. Additionally, there is a decorative washer and dryer. All of these will give your settlement a small happiness boost.

All appliances require 2 units of electricity (such as a jukebox) to function properly. The decorative one does not use any power source. When there is no power, they simply act as containers. If you cut the power while the washer is running, the washer/dryer cycle will not complete, the machine will unlock and you will be able to retrieve the clothes, but you will still lose the detergent or lid.

There are 5 buildable items in total, located in the Furniture > Miscellaneous category. They're not on their own menu, so will probably be lumped into the miscellaneous category, with a few different others.

How to build and use

Make/Place a washer and dryer in the workshop under Furniture → Miscellaneous.

Washing machine: Put the supporting clothes + effective laundry detergent (or lid) →→ to start.

Dryer: Put washed/changeable clothes → close → start.

Wait for the cycle, listen to the buzzer, put away clean clothes and wash your hands.

Install

Install and enable the .esp using the mod manager. This mod is safe to install/update in a secure state.

Uninstall: Stop a running device, retrieve the device, save and exit, and delete the files. (As with any scripted mod, uninstall the save mid-stream at your own risk, but it should be fine.)

troubleshooting

"Start" does not appear/error tone:

Washing machines require effective laundry detergent and supportive clothing. The dryer only accepts laundered or refurbished items. Commercial washing machines require at least 5 bottle caps in your inventory to function. If any required materials or funds are missing, the machine will not start (you will receive a missing notification)

Some dirty things cannot be cleaned:

Clothes machines without a clean version are not supported...

After hibernation/waiting: the machine will automatically resume/finish; a brief rush is normal.
