About this mod Machine translation

A simple and very lightweight rain texture alternative that makes rain more visible. Recommended for those who like to enhance the vanilla look.

The More Noticeable version was updated on June 3, which is the same as the main file, but more obvious. The two have now been packaged and uploaded together.

A little bothered by the almost invisible rain ruining the cozy feeling you get on a rainy day? Worried that more advanced weather overhaul mods might have more changes than you bargained for? Don’t worry because this one will make things easier.

This mod only offers one texture; rain. The textures are borrowed from the legendary fadingsignal's True Storms mod and tuned to the perfect pinnacle of my personal preference. I compared it to hundreds of photos and footage of actual rain, other mods, and my own observations to get it just right. Subtle, but undeniably noticeable.

Install:

Make sure to enable the mod first as described in the following link:

No mod manager is needed for this one, as it's just a loose file. Drag and drop the downloaded archive contents into your Fallout 4 folder. The final result should look like this: ...\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Effects\fxraindrops_d.dds

uninstall:

Delete the file and the empty folder containing it (only if there is nothing else in it). It's completely safe to add or remove at any time.

compatibility:

Very nice and loose, but not sure. Should work on most versions of the game, but has not been tested with next-gen updates. Also not sure how it interacts with ENB, and may override other mods that change rain textures, but easy to remove if conflict occurs.

What this module does:

It makes the rain more visible and noticeable, and more realistically reflects real life.

What this mod doesn’t do:

It doesn't fix the "dead zones" where rain refuses to render at all, especially when viewed from certain angles. This is a problem with the game itself, and fixing or circumventing it is well beyond the scope of this mod. No cells, image spaces, or weather are edited. It doesn't turn raindrops into unicorns either, just to let you know.

I do ask...for now. Want to make the rain more or less noticeable, lighter, darker, thicker, thinner? Just ask. I'm limiting this to texture editing only, not adjusting the model/grid/filters/cells/references/weather/image space or anything else.

Special thanks to:

  • Bethesda, of course. Everyone has a love-hate relationship with Bethesda.
  • convert.com, allows me to easily convert from *.dds texture file format online.
  • LunaPic, provides me with an easy way to edit images online without having to refresh my Photoshop license.
  • Fadingsignal, the creator of True Storms, let me borrow its textures. Also, give fadingsignal’s music a try! It wobbles.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
