Have you ever noticed that the game has hundreds of holotapes, and they all use the exact same models and textures? This bothered me for years, considering they were modeled like some kind of retro-futuristic hybrid of a compact disk and a VHS tape. These things are actually designed to be written on and labeled and you're telling me no one has ever done that? Yes, this doesn't work for me. So I spent over a year developing this mod to change that.
Features
Add unique details to hundreds of holotapes.
Compatible with most holographic tape texture replacers.
Marked as lightweight plugin (esp with esl flag) to minimize impact on load order.
FAQ
How to start using this mod?
Just install it! No configuration or special steps are required.
Can I use this with a holotape replacement?
possible? Holotape shows the original model/texture below, so if you have a texture replacer then you'll see it under my tags and text. Some texture replacers, especially dark ones, may not work well and may hide text added by this mod.
If you're using a mod that completely changes the holotape model, then that model will be used to add the mod's holotape, whereas the model I edited still looks like a generic Fallout 4 holotape with unique details added.
Is this compatible with adding modded holotapes?
Yes, it is. Holotape added by the mod will use the default model and texture, with no unique details.
Is this compatible with the item sorter?
It depends. The old item sorter that manually renames all objects needs to be patched. Newer item sorters that dynamically generate patches will work fine, but you will need to generate new patches after installing this mod.
Will you add patches to provide unique details to the holotapes added by the mod?
No, I don't have any current plans to do so. I spent over a year making about three hundred holograms. While one or two tapes may be insignificant, they add up very quickly and I could easily end up spending months on textures for a larger mod like Settlement Simulator 2 or America Rising 2. I'd rather not do that when I've already achieved my goal.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
