Overview
I (original author bp42s, the same below) really like survival mode, and I actually like the fast travel restrictions. You spend more time roaming on foot, and you have to plan ahead when you want to go on longer hikes.
That being said, it can get a bit tedious after long play sessions, and I've often considered re-enabling fast travel, or stalling on destroying the Institute or the Brotherhood of Steel in order to continue fast traveling to the C.I.T. ruins or use VTOL grenades.
I think a good compromise is needed! You can now gain the ability to fast travel between settlements by claiming a workshop or establishing a supply line, and can hitch a ride when encountering supply carriers in the federation.
Specific content
You can choose from two different modes of fast travel to settlements.
default:
You can fast travel between settlements you own while you are within the boundaries of your settlement's workshop.
Supply lines:
When you are within a settlement's workshop boundaries, you can fast travel along supply lines.
- This has the same logic as a normal caravan supply line, any settlement connected to the caravan network can be fast traveled to. For example, if you have a caravan supply line from A->B->C->D, you can fast travel from settlement A to settlement D, even though A and D are not directly connected.
Additional features:
- When you meet a supplier, you can also pay a small fee (switchable) to go with the supplier. Simply press the Alternate Activation button, view the feeder's home and destination settlements, and select the settlement you want to travel to.
- Additionally, you can choose to allow fast travel between DLC world space and allied faction locations while in settlement. This can be toggled in the Configure Hologram or MCM.
- Safe travel automatically works with mods that add new se …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
