1.Description
The original "submachine gun" was clearly intended to be a Thompson submachine gun, but its art assets were somewhat misshapen, inaccurate, and ugly. The Thompson SMG Replacer (TSR) gives the submachine gun new meshes, textures, and animations, transforming it into something more realistic than the iconic Thompson SMG.
Some weapon mods have also been modified to be more like the Thompson; notably, barrel options are now a choice between the standard horizontal foregrip and the signature Thompson vertical foregrip. Additionally, magazine options now range from 20 to 30 round rod magazines, and 50 to 100 round drum magazines.
Also, it's very strange that "short stock" was simply changed to "no stock" - better than someone sawing a complete stock in half and then going to the trouble of making an entirely new stock to fit the now smaller stock. The "recoil compensating stock" now has a rubber recoil pad. Finally, submachine gun reflex sights are now shown as Nydar Gun sights instead of using the vanilla reflex sight asset - a commercial reflex sight dating back to the 1940s; marketed for use on hunting shotguns.
Note that the new asset is largely based on the Thompson M1A1, but unlike the real-world M1A1, it has horizontal grooves in the receiver that allow it to accept drum magazines - just like earlier Thompson models. Think of it as a modification of Wasteland, I guess, or just a difference in the Fallout timeline.
This mod was forked from the Weapons Addition and Replacement Set (WARS), so its assets are duplicates of those in WARS. If you want to use WARS, you should uninstall this mod first.

3.Installation/uninstallation
Install:
- Just install as usual using a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex.
--- Manual installation should be fine too, but I hope you know what you're doing.
- After installation, all files, including the readme (please read the readme), will be located in the (default) \Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data\ directory.
- TSR will need to be edited after anything else from the vanilla SMG in the load order - if you want it to work, that's it
- TSR uses the ESP plugin with the ESL flag so it doesn't take up a load order "slot".
uninstall:
- It is generally not recommended to uninstall Fallout 4 mods while a save game is in progress, but TSR is unlikely to cause problems. However, to be on the safe side, make a backup save before uninstalling.
- Disable/remove using your mod manager as usual.
--- For manual uninstallation, delete all TSR-related files from the \Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\Data\ directory. Check the TSR archive file you downloaded to identify these files.

- Play MOD
As a replacement for the vanilla submachine gun, you don't need to know much in advance; you just install the TSR and play as normal. If you want to know more about what you're getting, keep reading:
TSR won't be removing or adding any weapon mods for the SMG, but several of its existing mods have been changed to look and behave somewhat differently - including some minor stat changes to match. (It's worth noting that the previous "Quick Eject" mod no longer increases reload speed. In fact, the larger the magazine, the slower the reload speed, just like in the base game.
Here are the main changes to the submachine gun weapon mod:
barrel
- Standard barrel -> Standard barrel, horizontal foregrip
- Short and light barrel -> Radiator barrel, vertical foregrip
magazine
- Medium magazine -> 20 rounds straight magazine
- Medium rapid ejection drum -> 30 round straight magazine
- Large drum magazine -> 50 round drum magazine
- Lar …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
