PS - It's now 2026, and I (original author screaminglake, the same below) have started working on a new soundtrack replacement for "Fallout 4", among other things. I have a new YouTube channel and have re-uploaded this song, remember to subscribe to stay up to date with my latest progress!

You can also stream or download any song from this soundtrack for free on my Bandcamp!

Update: You can now listen to The Lost World and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. music simultaneously in the same game session. They match perfectly! Click here to view our 4estGimp merged version: 4estGimp - LOST WORLD AND STALKER MERGED MUSIC

"The Lost World" is an alternative soundtrack that I have been creating throughout 2020 as my first important music creation project. It's the perfect combination of my passion for music and my passion for Fallout 4 mods. Therefore, I present a soundtrack that I feel is more suitable for a darker, more gloomy interpretation of Federation, for those who use mods to make the game closer to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and less sunshine and rainbows. The focus was on providing a unified soundscape that would hopefully capture more of the feeling of desolation and loneliness, and lead to moments of respite when finding refuge and other special locations. Over 75 minutes and 30 tracks covering all the base game music!

This does not include battle music, but apart from brief chimes and the original soundtrack, all full music tracks should include this track. Regarding battle music, I recommend trying my battle music mod Distortion, which provides a more consistent soundtrack than the original battle music (although I didn't create Distortion with the intention that it would be tonally close to The Lost World, which might be a bit too intense for you), or use the dynamic music modification and select the ambient music option in the installer to have the Lost World music play continuously without being frequently interrupted by the battle music.

For a more stable audio experience, I highly recommend my companion module ScreamingLake Soundscapes (mainly the Dark, Brooding Full Set master file I made) to supplement this soundtrack alternative. It replaces certain audio cues, interface sound effects, and special music tracks to create a more thematic atmosphere that matches the soundtrack (and can of course be enjoyed on its own!).

I usually turn the music slider in the in-game audio settings menu to about 75% or 3/4, which seems to be the most consistent sound balance among most music mods I've tried, so I mostly tune around that volume level. You can turn the music's audio settings up or down as needed (some may need a reminder that this feature exists), but if any tracks sound too loud or too quiet, please let me know in the post too!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
