NEW: New configuration option where you can choose to prevent lockout if you have level 4 hacker privileges.
Changes: Switched to Papyrus Common Library as a requirement and removed Garden of Eden as a requirement.
Optimization: Parse configuration options into Papyrus public library MemVars instead of reading from the configuration file each time.
Updated on November 20th:
Version 1.1.0
---Minor update ---
New: New MCM option to enable novice lock. You should only enable this if you are using a mod like Ultimate Hacking, otherwise you may soft-lock yourself in missions if you are not high enough in the hacking perk.
Added: ESPless option added. The functionality is the same as the main file. Requires Papyrus Common Library and is exclusive to previous generation (1.10.163).
Overview
Hacking a terminal is now risky! Now, if the endpoint cannot be unencrypted, the endpoint will be an extra layer of security.
|
Hacking in Fallout 4 is inconsequential and has almost no punishment. This mod brings some tension and risk to hacking, so it encourages you to take your time and make good guesses.
|
The terminal will only lock "up" if you made a previous guess in that terminal and exited early or the hack failed. After unlocking the terminal, it will return to normal.
|
Promotion process
Advanced Terminal -> Expert Terminal
Expert Terminal -> Master Terminal
Newbie terminals are unaffected by default, as they are usually required for quest progression. However, if you are using a mod like Ultimate Hacking, there is an MCM setting that enables locking for newbie terminals.

Specific content
You can enable/disable the mod in the MCM and toggle the message shown when security is improved.
|
This is compatible with Ultimate Hacking, and I recommend disabling the "Endpoint Security Detection" setting in Ultimate Hacking if using both.
|
That’s it, have fun!
Notice:
This mod has been tested on both versions and works on both next-gen and old-gen versions. Make sure you have the correct version of Garden of Eden Papyrus Script Extender installed for your game.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
