About this mod Machine translation

Author's words:

This mod adds a suit of armor that functions almost exactly like a suit of powered armor - including Pain Train Support, Footsteps, Crash Landing and pretty much all mods - except it's an exoskeleton and looks like a regular suit of armor.

Also intended to be used as a framework for other modders looking to easily create similar sets.

TALOS exoskeleton:

This mod is a rebuild/remake of gabgone's excellent TALOS exoskeleton in Fallout 4 - Mods and community (.com) with direct permission. The TALOS II suit itself was built by him, using assets to which he had access. My (the author's, same below) only contributions to the grid are the planet tour suit and helmet, which are basically just merged/slight variations of his suit, and the vanilla hazmat suit.

While my mod technically makes gabgone's mod redundant in terms of added functionality, I still recommend heading over and downloading the original. I will now discuss these differences in the next section.

What this module does:

While I think the design is great and have a lot of respect for it, I've never been a fan of power armor in Fallout 4 (or any other game, for that matter). I didn't like how big the frames were, or how they very severely distorted and stretched the character's body to fit; and, as a lifelong Paulderon hater, none of the suits appealed to me aesthetically. Having said that, I still really enjoyed it, especially the changes that Fallout 4 brought: the heavy footsteps, the custom HUD, all the extensive modifications you could make, crash landings, and especially the feeling of having guys flying with the Pain Train!

I've been waiting a long time to see if anyone could figure out how to edit the mesh of the power armor frame to account for the anatomical distortions, or at least slim them down. Well, it's been six years and now seven years and no one seems to have done anything, so I decided to bite the bullet and do it myself.

As the name suggests, this mod is my attempt to improve upon the excellent foundation created by gabgone with their "TALOS Exoskeleton" project. This mod provides, at least to my knowledge, the first attempt at bringing most of the functionality and visual effects of power armor to a non-power armor suit. This serves both as a standalone armor set; and as a frame of reference for other modders who may be interested in doing the same. I would certainly like to see more people take advantage of this. (What I really hope is that someone figures out how to use a PA HUD with a non-PA helmet...

Four "new" pieces of armor have been added. These are:

TALOS II exoskeleton frame. The lightweight frame, without armor, greatly increases the user's strength and carrying capacity. There are no other benefits.

TALOS II exoskeleton. According to the statistics of the T-45, incredible towing capability is provided at the cost of some delayed drag. Provides considerable increases in strength, weight carrying capacity, and energy/damage/radiation resistance. Weighs 75 lbs without any modifications. Can be worn with any clothing labeled Underarmor. Helmet not included.

TALOS II-X Planet Travel Suit. An improved version of TALOS-II, designed to carry a lot of stuff...in space (???). The exoskeleton is built on top of the vanilla suit, providing incredible radiation resistance when paired with the helmet underneath.

Introduced in version 1.1, the exoskeleton frame is a stripped-down, unarmored frame for those who just want the aesthetics and strength-enhancing benefits of an exoskeleton without any of the power armor features. This version supports leg, arm, and jump boost modifications (see below for details on these modifications), but otherwise has average defense and no resistance to hazards.

On the other hand, the TALOS II exoskeleton and II-X planetary excursion suit function very similarly to power armor.

There's heavy footsteps when walking around (if you're using a mod like Power Armor Movement …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
