TALOS exoskeleton Redux -- power armor replacement (Chinese update)

by gabgone - spncryn·v1.5·Updated 2025-07-21

This mod adds a suit of armor that functions almost exactly like a suit of powered armor - including Pain Train Support, Footsteps, Crash Landing and pretty much all mods - except it's an exoskeleton and looks like a regular suit of armor. Also intended to be used as a framework for other modders looking to easily create similar sets.

Cause

This mod is a rebuild/rework of gabgone's excellent TALOS exoskeleton for Fallout 4 - Mods and community (.com) and is licensed directly. The TALOS II suit itself was built by him, using assets he had permission to use. My only contributions to the mesh are the planet tour suit and helmet, which are basically just merges/slight transformations of his suit, and the vanilla suit.

Below is a credit to the assets of the lawsuit itself, copied directly from his page.

Nomination List

*Now, it’s time to get nominated! None of the mods are my original concepts: all meshes and textures used are from the modders or the original game.

Basically, I play with LEGO using triangles...*

*High resolution T60 and T45 textures by dpillari, from his Hi-Res pack, edited by me. *

*

The vest and all bags are MSV Mod from Cerruti 1889, the Teddyoleg model. I edited the existing model and gave it different bone weights.

Thanks guys! *

While technically my mod makes gabgone's mod redundant in terms of added functionality, I still recommend downloading the original in the past. I will now discuss these differences in the next section.

What does this module do?

While I think the design is great and have a lot of respect for it, I've never been a fan of power armor in Fallout 4 (or any other game, for that matter). I don't like how big the frames are, nor how they very severely distort and stretch the character's body to fit; and, as a lifelong pauldrons hater, none of these suits appeal to me aesthetically. That being said, there's still a lot I really like about it, especially the changes that Fallout 4 brought: the heavy footsteps, the custom HUD, all the extensive modifications you can make, bump landings, and especially the painful feeling of letting dudes fly!

I've been waiting for a long time to see if anyone could figure out how to edit the mesh of the power armor frame to account for the anatomical distortions, or at least make them smaller. Well, it's been six years and now seven years and no one seems to have done anything, so I decided to bite the bullet and do it myself.

This mod, as the name suggests, is my attempt to improve upon the excellent foundation created by gabgone with their "TALOS Exoskeleton" project. This mod provides - at least to my knowledge - the first attempt at bringing most of the functionality and visual effects of power armor to a non-power armor suit. This serves both as a standalone armor set; and as a frame of reference for other modders who may be interested in this. I would certainly like to see more people take advantage of this. (What I really hope is that someone figures out how to use a PA HUD with a non-PA helmet...

Four "new" pieces of armor have been added. These are:

TALOS II exoskeleton frame. The lightweight frame and lack of armor greatly increases the user's strength and carrying capacity. There are no other benefits.

TALOS II exoskeleton. According to the statistics of the T-45, incredible transport capacity is provided at the cost of some delayed drag. Provides consi …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
