"Replace File" option
This file is a modified acf file
This is the file Steam uses to track which version you have installed and trigger updates.
If you're like me and don't want to update Fallout 4 just yet for your mods, you can use this file to trick Steam into thinking you've already downloaded the update.
Install:
Step 1. Open your Fallout 4 game directory
Step 2. Navigate up both folders (Common, then Steamapps)
Step 3. Find appmanifest_377160.acf and create a backup of this file (so you can restore it later to download updates)
Step 4. Download the appmanifest_377160.acf file from this page and place it in this folder
Step 5. Right click on the file and go to properties
Step 6. Mark as read only and press OK
Step 7. Restart Steam

How did I create this file?
I went and built an acf with the new BuildId and Installed Depot Manifests and it looked like the game had been updated.
How to restore?
Remember the backup you made in step 3? Place the file back into the location of this file. Oh, you didn't follow my instructions? I've provided you with the unmodified version. Just rename it to appmanifest_377160.acf first. enjoy.
Not working?
Open acf in notepad and make sure the path to the Steam client is correct (under "LauncherPath". If your Steam exe does not find @C:Program FilesSteamsteam.exe, replace this directory with the correct one. Make sure to use double slashes instead of , as it appears in Windows

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
