Start Me Up is a unique mod that frees you from the role of a concerned parent through dialogue changes and alternate starts, allowing for more role-playing opportunities in Fallout 4. However, this mod has been abandoned by the author and will no longer receive updates...so here I decided to do some maintenance as best I can.
If you just want to get started quickly and skip the original story's pre-battle intro, use both SKK Fast Start and Piper Interview Restored. SKK Fast Start doesn't involve any vanilla missions, making it more compatible with other mods and taking up less space to break your game. Unlike Start Me Up, Start Me Up edited out most of the original main mission, including mission segments and some Vault 111-related scripts.
Start Me Up is more than just a "quick start mod". Start Me Up, should be considered a story overhaul for the entire game, and incompatibility with other mods that touch the original missions is inevitable. Start Me Up is very prone to mod conflicts, please be careful when using it. Unless otherwise noted in the compatibility section, this mod should be loaded near your last mod order.
For more information about Start Me Up, see the original SMU page here.
If you want to use the reworked version, please do not download the original Start Me Up, it is a standalone mod.
Version 7.4 (20/01/2024) New Update 7.4:
Some small fixes I don't remember
Lancer Captain Kells won't say you're a relic of the past if your character is a wastelander
Fixed incorrect message box when selecting Bruiser trait
Current functions:
->Unofficial Fallout 4 compatibility. (requires UFO4P)
-> Fixed wasteland start spawn script (very important feature)
The build script loads you into the federation and then is set to wait 20 seconds to breathe before MQ102's stage 10 (timeout) is set to start. This prevents the engine from being overloaded.
With the launch of Stage 10 Setstage. You get the "Overtime" mission just like you would if you left the Vault normally. You will now start to get the items and quest triggers that add the mod, which are set to launch in Stage 10.
Like the native Fallout 4 MQ102 script, stage 10 of MQ102 is coded to subsequently launch stage 15. It makes Diamond City Radio, Classical Radio and BoS Distress SIgnal available in a vanilla and saver-friendly way.
MQ102's post-vault phase should work the same way it should in the original game, it's just that the objectives and dialogue have been changed to accommodate the alternate start.
Added proper end stage for MQ101 (added mission stop line) bypass to properly clean up aliases, which was missing in the original mod.
->
Stage 15 of Out of Time (MQ102) is now running the way it should. Quests and mods that require Stage 15 as a condition will be compatible with Start Me Up. Unlike older versions, radios now activate using native Fallout 4 mission phase events instead of "Invasions".
-> The "Overtime" mission in Wastelander Start should generally work fine unless there are mod conflicts. (If you are still having problems, please see the troubleshooting guide)
-> No more infinite loading screen bug with reload sequence as 20 seconds of script engine breathing space has been added before stage 10 "Script Start". However, you should still wait a few minutes after …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
