What this module does:
Fixed a bug in Fallout 4 where sound descriptor conditions were always evaluated against the player, rather than the actual actor or object playing the sound.
The problem:
In Creation Kit/xEdit, you can add conditions to sound descriptors (such as 'GetIsSex == Male' or 'GetIsRace == HumanRace'). However, due to a bug in the game code, these conditions are always checked against the player, regardless of which NPC or object is actually playing the sound.
This means:
- NPC animation sounds will check the player's race/gender/attributes, not the NPC's
- Sounds triggered by objects will check the player instead of the object
- Conditional audio designed for NPCs simply doesn't work as expected
Fix method:
This mod will patch the game's sound system so that it correctly passes actual actor/object references when evaluating sound descriptor conditions.
Now the condition works fine:
- ✅ NPCs play sounds based on their race, gender, faction, etc.
- ✅ Objects play sounds based on their own properties
- ✅ Animation trigger sounds (sound annotations) respect actor conditions
- ✅Papyrus 'Sound.Play()'...obey conditions
Require:
- **F4SE** (Fallout 4 Script Extender)
- Fallout 4 version 1.10.163 or higher
Install:
Install using your mod manager or unzip into Fallout 4's "data" folder.
To the mod author:
You can now create sound descriptors with conditions that actually work! Example:
- Male/female voice variants: Added "GetIsSex == Male" status
- Race specific timbres: added "GetIsRace == SuperMutantRace" condition
- Faction Audio: Added "GetInFaction == BrotherhoodOfSteel" condition
- Any conditions valid elsewhere now apply to sounds!
Polyphonic descriptions can be fully exploited.
Technical details:
The fix passes the correct object reference when evaluating sound conditions instead of always using the player reference hardcoded in "BGSStandardSoundDef::D oResolve".
compatibility:
Should be compatible with everything. This is a runtime fix and will not modify any game files.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
