The main file and the optional file (CharGen) have been packaged and uploaded together. You can choose one of the two to install according to your own playing preferences.
Preface: My (original author Qrsr, the same below) goal with this mod is to allow the player character to bypass the opening sequence without using additional scripts, custom quests, or menus. I accomplished this by only swapping vanilla logs and quest entries to ensure maximum compatibility while keeping all relevant items within Vault 111 intact.
The only requirement I've found to skip the startup scenario is by advancing the task using the Activator:Trigger box, or by changing the MQ101Debug global.
This approach is widely adopted in base games to handle complex mission interactions.
For the main file, I set a condition where the task advances immediately after pressing the "Skip" button.
In the second profile, I used the condition to advance the task after leaving the bathroom.
The third file forces you to start in the Vault 111 elevator behind the bomb.
Overview
Function:
Compatible with Next Generation (NG) and Old Generation (OG).
No script bypass.
No additional BA2 archives or bulk files.
Minimally intrusive mission modifications.
Optional files:
Option: No Character Generation (NCG) file
Bypass character generation on startup (gender defaults to male).
The player character wakes up directly in a cryopod when starting a new game.
Completely skipping the scene where Kellogg snatches the kid.
The SPECIAL menu will pop up immediately after you exit the cryo chamber.
The exploration mechanism of Vault 111 is exactly the same as the original gameplay.
Note: If you want to play as a female character with this version, please open the console and enter "player.sexchange" to swap your gender. This is necessary because quest modifications alone cannot make the game run this specific master file sequence for female characters.
Option: Character Generation (CG) File
Allows you to customize your character in the pre-war bathroom.
After character customization is completed, your character will be transferred directly to the cryopod.
There is a small delay before transitioning to post-war vaults.
There is a slight delay before the correct image space adapter is applied in the cryo chamber.
Play the Kellogg baby snatching scene normally.
Allows you to exit the cryopod and start the game after the Kellogg scene.
After arriving at the elevator center of Vault 111, you will be prompted with the SPECIAL menu.
NOTE: If character generation is applied, it is not possible to skip the Kellogg cutscene with only the vanilla quest modifications. Cutscenes are forced to restore normal walking speed, as the script that turns off running only turns off when the player teleports to the post-war environment. Likewise, the SPECIAL menu can only prompt the pod …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
