Version 1.1 updated on January 30, 2026:
Fixed abnormally high damage when using the True Damage mod. Fixed and added the correct keywords so that weapons gain bonuses from talents like Rifleman.
The vanilla shotgun was the weapon I used at low levels every time I beat the game, and completely forgot about it when the battle rifle became available, so this mod aims to change that.
illustrate
With its new modification options for the vanilla shotgun, the mod opens up a new mid-game endgame for the weapon that completely changes the nature of its bolt-action rifle. Now, at the third level of the Gunsmith perk, you can install the first semi-receiver and automatic receiver along with their new ammo conversion options. Additionally, there are upgraded receivers available and new barrel options for automatic fire due to more demanding perks like Rifleman or Heavy Gunner. The new receiver uses battle rifle animations, so any animation rework mods such as Wardaddy's Combat Shotgun and Rifle Rework Animation Pack (which I recommend) will work fine.
List of new features (currently):
4-column semi-automatic and 4-column automatic receivers with new custom meshes and textures,
New machine gun barrel options to suit your machine gun needs,
2 new iron sight options for new receivers with custom grids and textures and regrid stock options,
Five .308, three 7.62 and one 45-70 magazine modification options,
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
