An evil cult has emerged in the Federation, the Vault Boys fanatics. This new evil cult has taken root in all abandoned Vault Tec headquarters.
Hello everyone!
This is the first mod I've made for this game since 2016, so yes, it's been a long time since I last created something for this game. But given the ongoing celebration of this beloved series, and the fact that I've been tinkering with other games, I decided to dive back in and use my rusty trusty creative toolkit skills to put together a little project.
While the concept can definitely be expanded and enhanced, the submission window for this event is very limited. So I might revisit and refine it in the future if more ideas for a proper overhaul come to mind.
This is my submission for the 2025 Patternathon “Abandoned Wasteland Halloween theme.
The idea behind the mod?
I wanted something really creepy and disturbing.
What better person to embody Fallout's twisted brand of extreme capitalism than the Vault Boys themselves?
In this mod, a crazed cult worships and worships the image of Vault-Tec.
They borrow heavily from Vault-Tec's core ideals, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. To this cult, the Vault dwellers are considered saints, superior beings compared to the common people of the Commonwealth. Over time, they expanded their influence across the wasteland, even forming uneasy alliances with the Gunners and various Raider factions.
These fanatics are hardcore and difficult to kill because they are trained on the VATS system. They are hostile to the player because they see you as a failed citizen. One who plots against his own kind.
You can find all these fanatics at:
Drumlin Diner (whereabouts)
Croup Manor
War zones (outdoor and indoor)
glowing sea
Switchboard (near Super Duper Mart)
long-necked lukovsky
rotten fields
Nahant
national guard training range
Lynn Woods
Vault 75
Vault 81 (outdoor)
Vault 95
Vault 111
Shelter 114 (Metro)
Vault Tec Office
It is highly recommended that you only install this mod after arriving at the shelter. Otherwise, you might find yourself facing an army of these freaks on your doorstep.
Proceed with caution, my friends.
Hunt them down and collect five new Vault-Tec helmets!
These Vault-Tec helmets worn by Freak NPCs can be obtained by defeating Freak Overbosses, "Power Armor Freaks" that spawn in certain locations in the Commonwealth. There are five unique variants in total. Female NPCs equipped with this item will wear the Vault Girl version, while male NPCs will wear the Vault Boy version.
This mod was created specifically for the Halloween-themed event of the 2025 Modathon, so its main goal is to provide an aesthetic and thematic experience. However, the concept behind this Vault Boy fan has a lot of potential, so if I have the time, I might expand it with more narrative content and new mechanics in the future.
Enjoy the mod and happy hunting!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
