About this module:
If you've ever wanted to build beds and let your settlers figure out who gets which bed without having to worry about them standing over the bed all night (if they're assigned to a bed) or losing the happiness of the settlement, or maybe building "real" double beds or bunk beds for two, three or even four actual settlers to save space, then this mod might sound interesting to you.
Generally speaking, it aims to solve the game's "bed situation" through AI features such as bed sharing, automatic bed searching, and assignment priorities. The mod also comes with quite a few two-person, three-person, and four-person beds that settlers can "share" with each other. "Normal" extender and replacer versions available. In addition to the basic playard, it also includes many variations of the Creation Club bed.
Original system, problem:
If settlers were unable to access their assigned bunks, they would often stand in one spot throughout the night.
When a player builds a bed, a random settler is assigned, who becomes the only one who can use it afterwards.
A bed (albeit a double or bunk bed) only counts as one bed for the settlement's resource "bed" value.
Sometimes, when arriving at a settlement at night, even though everyone has a designated (accessible, unobstructed) bed, settlers can still be seen lingering in their beds instead of already sleeping in them.
Even a very small object next to the bed will block it, causing the pathfinding AI to fail and preventing settlers from accessing it.
This mod adds changes and improvements:
Settlers do not necessarily need to be assigned to beds. Those assigned to a bed will attempt to use that bed ("assignment priority").
However, if a settler cannot use their assigned bed (or they don't have an assigned bed at all), they will try to find an unassigned bed to sleep in without assigning themselves to it. ("Automatic bed seeking").
If they can't find any beds (all remaining beds are unusable/all occupied/the settlement doesn't have enough beds), instead of standing in one spot, they sandbox (shopping, wandering, etc.) in the settlement. ("Fail-Safe Sandbox"). Once you build enough beds, sandbox settlers will immediately recognize this and will sleep in them. ("real-time" automatic bed search). (Those who have already found an unassigned bed to sleep in will not wake up to sleep in a newly created bed).
The mod comes with a large number of "multiple sleeping animation markers", non-assignable, shareable beds, allowing more settlers to sleep in them ("multiple marker beds"). They were not alienable, as no settler could keep them exclusively for himself. They come in Extender (counts as a new bed) and Replacer (changes the base stats of a vanilla bed) versions, see below. All of these are accessible from both sides (yes, they can even climb on top of each other).
Beds added by the mod (or even vanilla beds if you choose to install one of the "replacer" versions) add as much "bed" value to the settlement's resources as many settlers can sleep in (e.g. a 4-person double bed adds 4 "beds" to the value).
When arriving at a settlement at night, settlers are already sleeping in their beds (AI no longer desyncs when settlement loads).
Beds' sleep animation markers are more accessible to settlers. (As you can see in some of the videos below, settlers can even reach their beds through open windows or smaller settlement objects like airplane seats). Object collision tolerance for animated markers is greater, allowing beds to be placed in more compact locations.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
