Low polygon 3D preview! I've always liked the 3D previews provided by Visible Idle Markers and Workshop Vanilla Idles. Not only are these visually appealing, they also allow you to correctly position objects that interact with other objects, such as handrails and wall tilt idlers. Just previewing the object with a rectangle won't do it. So I did a 3D preview myself, and the length of Tris was reduced from ~11K to less than 3K.

Behavior and efficiency improved. Idle duration has been extended and can be configured based on normal idle, dance and append lengths if MCM is installed. Additionally, NPCs should start sandbox play immediately afterwards, rather than stand still. Once you're gone, all markers are completely removed and no residue remains.

Version 2.0 is not directly backwards compatible with 1.0, but versions 1.x and 2.x can be installed at the same time. They will use separate menus under the store without conflict, so previous users can slowly update the various items in their settlements.

Compatible with:

After testing, it can work normally in transferring settlements, WSFW settlement layout and clipboard resurrection. Import, export, and nuke/dismantle should all work.

Incompatible:

Burn my settlement. It detects the preview, but not the markup. I can't figure out why (it's supposed to detect FURN-based tags, but I don't see IDLM), and to avoid being left with unmodifiable tags, I auto-detect Raze and skip them entirely for now. This relies on the Raze keyword for "special" items, so don't enable deletion of these items in the config!

bugs/known issues:

Preview little finger is weird! It wasn't until I made 400 (!) of these that I noticed that several of the little fingers on my left hand were crooked. I wouldn't do it over again. It only affects the preview, is barely noticeable, and does not affect player positioning.

If you're like me, you probably use "Place Everywhere" and your keyboard for perfect positioning. Don't bother doing vertical maneuvers. In some cases, the preview is moved slightly up along the Z axis so that the foot doesn't go through the origin/ground. In hindsight, I didn't actually have to do that since I was just using the bottom marker for the collision, but it wasn't like I had any intention of redoing it :P So much niff... Anyway, if the marker indicating interaction with the table is a few pixels higher than you expected, that's why. The actual position and rotation should be fine, and the performance should be fine.

Producer:

Neston: Combining dynamic shop mats with RadBeetle dancing was the original inspiration for this mod.

RadBeetle: RadBeetle organizes, collects, and optimizes all the dance animations I use.

The Sim Settlement Team's Mod School Resources/Mixamo Collection: The original source of animation for RadBeetle. There’s a lot of content in there if you want to check it out!

SVG Repo: I got the SVGs for the icons from there.

Squirrel97: I initially had a complex SMM menu issue and contacted him. He was very helpful and provided useful examples.

Dance animation module resources are provided by umpa for hip shaking and skyline dance animations.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
