Introducing the Bow Mod for Power Armor. The power bow of choice! It has a huge bolt-type arrow and a very thick drawstring that doesn't function properly without power armor. unless. . . . You are a super mutant. Naturally, this weapon is very strong. Considering the power armor requirements and reloading every round, I (neeher, the original author, the same below) think the balance is good.
However, it can be used outside of Power Armor, more in the How to Play section.
Featuring some common weapon modifications, paints, and more. The video below demonstrates some options.
How to play
There are two ways to obtain this bow. Through level list injection, it can be found randomly on some super mutants, or you can go and get unique versions. This weapon is fully animated for first and third person, as well as first and third person power armor. Super mutants also use this bow.
They can also be legendary, with Select Power Armor being added to a random legendary roll. Appears starting at level 20.
For console command: "help select 4 weap" or use XX000F99
Unique Bow
The unique version can be found in the Glowing Sea parking lot next to the Supermarket (coc GlowingSeaPOIDB06Int). The location is shown in the last two photos above.
Once you first obtain a unique bow, you can craft the weapon at the Chemistry Workbench under the SEL. POWER BOW. This will also allow for the creation of various Bolt Ammo types. Otherwise, only Standard and Rebar bolts are available. Certain ammo types are also retrievable.
To bypass this rule and display all craftable objects, use the console command: Set PBOWCraftableGlobal to 1
Strength requirements
Since this bow is primarily built for use with power armor, using it outside of power armor requires a power system.
- If wearing Power Armor, or if the actor is a Super Mutant, the bow's power output is 100%. Power Armor animations are faster, more stable, and easier to use.
- Outside of Power Armor, actors can use a bow at 75% reduced output if Strength is 10 or higher.
- Outside of Power Armor, if Strength is 7 or higher, the bow can be used at 50% reduced output if the actor's bow has the Light Limbs modification. They cannot use a bow without the Light Limbs modification, as explained below.
- Outside of power armor and with a Strength of 6 or less, the actor cannot use a bow. It can still be held, but the custom animation will prevent the bow from being actually used.
Ammunition switcher
The bow also comes with an ammo switcher. Once any Power Bow is picked up, a new aid item called the Power Bow Ammo Switcher will appear. This can be recommended as the Ammo Switcher interface, as shown in photo 8 and in the video above. This interface will also inform you of the power output of your current bow.
One thing to note is that the Ammo Switcher only works if you have a bow in your inventory. Multiple bows will interfere and result in no ammo switching. This appears to be an engine bug and may require a redesign of how the system works …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
